6 months in...is that the couch over there ?
« on: August 22, 2022, 10:04:47 PM »
Well.. this tour so far, I have 327 sorties..

With that I have 104 kills and 58 Golly-gee assists. If I could shoot a little better I'd be in heaven. But...

I suck. Still better, but suckage.

What is curious, it that I do my best in a Brewster. A slow, under armed non wep aircraft.

Golly-gee it is fun. Can't get away from anything. Really got to pick your spots, but if you pick correctly, it's a beast.

I have a love hate relationship with "score".  I check anytime I fly, and after a kill or two. But...if  it is  a large  map and I fly around sight seeing, I'll  bail if a fight is brewing  somewhere else. Sight seeing is not why I'm here.

Found a home with the Bish  because there is a core of fighter pilots that share my reasons for being here.  Started with the knights but there is no core of fighter pilots. A lot of playing in the dirt to by most to win the war. Rooks were better  but  the core of  fighter pilots there tend to group up for base  taking.

I noticed that when flying with the knights or the rooks the same bish pilots that whupped my behind over and  over, weren't ganging, they just liked to fight.

As a Bish, I just look for them and the fight is there.

So...if I could just turn assists into kills, poop would be a happy camper.

And the Brewster ?  There is nothing better that facing up against a yak, spit 16 or D9  that holds all the cards and putting their butt on my butt wall.

Not often, but when it happens, it is glorious.

Comfortable couch by the way..

nopoop, your gunnery is almost as bad as mine.

I don't think your kills to assists ratio is that bad. I see it as you're in the fight getting your licks in.

If you think the kills should be higher try holding the trigger down a half beat longer.

My gunnery sux, and I'm the first to admit it. Aerial gunnery is one of the most difficult aspects of AH for me, and many others. Getting into good habits, and practicing those habits should see you gunnery skills improve, just remember it is probably the most perishable of the skills.

There are some things that can improve your gunnery.

The first is; aim small, miss small. What I mean by this is don't aim for the plane, aim for the cockpit of the plane. That way if you miss the cockpit you still might hit the plane.

Second, try to unload  the airframe (release pressure on the stick) when you shoot. You don't want to add G when you are shooting if it can be avoided. Taking excess G off the airframe makes the shot placement more predictable, and repeatable.

Third, film your fights and look at where you are getting hits on target compared to where you are aiming (cockpit) and make adjustments to your sight picture as needed.

SIK1 we are going to have to get together again.

The majority of my assists come when I get to the point I"m on his six in range, and the flip flopping-jinx begins.  I'll get in a few and then I get a six call and have to pull off. Or he's a great flopper and I end up shooting the whole clip on short bursts on where he was, not where he is now in his jinking floppy aircraft. If he's at 200 that flipping is very hard to zero in on.

Hard time with the Brewsters 4 50"s or the short clip on a Yak.

I am getting "better" though..

If you like slow stall fighters try the Hurricane IIC, swap the four .50 cal for four 20mm and watch things disintegrate.

That was a hilarious fight we had the other day with my 152 and your Brewster.  :rofl :rofl :rofl

I almost had you several times, I had drained my FWD tank all the way and it was very sloppy and funky with the tail.  :x
Unfortunately I need more practice with the 152 because that tail went right out and I went into a flat spin.

Good times nopoop. But I gotta know, how much fuel did you have after that ridiculous extending I did?  :airplane:

Yet for many months after its introduction, we had recurring "perk it!" demands on BBS and in game  :D

For your score, it is still in the (lower) average territory. Strictly statistically speaking, you gotta be even worse to achieve "suckage" status.
With one exception you already mentioned yourself: Your shooting, which also results in your very bad assist/kill ratio of 0.55 in the current tour (arena average is
generally around 0.3). Maybe you might want to follow Haggerty's advice and take a Hurricane IIC for a bit.

Most likely from it turning a 180 and losing almost no E.

That was a good fight. Figured it was you because every time I turned to go back home you came back  :)  Flying alone with no gang it said, That's Tig. We have had some good fights. If you were fighting a spit 5, a Seafire or a Brew, it was me. Great fights at the island in NDIsles. You were in a spitty and a 109 if I remember correctly.

I fly with 3/4 tank in the Brew and ALWAYS have enough fuel. Prolly had 12 minutes of fuel when I landed. You fly like I do.  It's all about the fight  :aok

I have not seen numbers. I have flown past more than a few in my 38J. If i do not turn and they 180, some actually stay with me or even close. It is strange to say the least.

They are not big and they are not that heavy...... who knows. I have flown them a couple of times. Fun to throw around and doesn't seem to have any bad habits that require extra attention when flying.
