The median is even lower, especially if you would filter out the two sortie wonders.  Which is also necessary to declare Atlau actual #1 in K/H, the seven guys on top of him in HTCs k/h ranking all did only one or two sorties at most, none of them have over 14 minutes sortie time total.


Another interesting side note: Atlau is ranked #2 in k/d, #3 in k/s, #8 in k/h, #5 in hit%, #8 in kill points, which made him rightfully #1 in fighter score tour 271

In August 06 (tour 79), with those stats he would have ranked #4. #14, #36, #42 and #262(!) respectively, for an overall fighter rank of #6 (still impressive)

Possibly, yes. But he would have faced much stiffer opposition too. But that's all speculation, I just can transfer scores back in time, not players
It just shows, how much the combat environment in AH has changed over the years. Fewer targets, longer flights (avg fighter mode sortier duration was 8 minutes in summer 2006, now it's 10), fewer opportunities for multi-kill sorties, much more difficult to get any success in handicapped rides like Hurri I or I16 due to much 'faster' combats, and so on.

Yeah it's hard to tell.  Pulling off high scoring numbers like that back in the day took a lot higher SA as there was triple if not quadruple the threats in the air.  Some threats, and some targets.  I notice now higher kills per hour are harder to achieve, but the kills per death a little easier as it's much easier to put yourself in a favorable situation to survive.

I stopped playing this style years ago, but I used to enjoy seeing how far I could get into a tour without dieing.  It grew old to me, on top of the fact I'm rusty about every time I log in.

You can see the death knell of value-of-entertainment in that score board. One of those top scoring players has deficient ACM but compensates for that with highly risk-averse gameplay. Yes very realistic if your life and a greater conflict are the stakes. For entertainment, not so much.

You had the same thing a decade ago. Of course, someone "optimizing" his fighting that way has a good chance to get to the top - but he still has to be a very good pilot, and most of the players do not exactly fly that way. Very few players actually care about rank that much.

That is a fair point but individual opinions are not the focus when discussiing an entertainment based on interaction?
