This C.202 was flown by Gunnery Sergeant Faliero Gelli of the 378th Squadron RA, based in Sicily during 1942. On July 27th he was shot down over Malta by RAF ace George Beurling. Gelli's aircraft was hit in the engine and radiator and went into a spin. However he managed to pull out in time to make a belly landing on the island and become a POW.
