Bringing in some new faces.
« on: January 10, 2023, 08:46:15 PM »
Not the oldest player, but been hanging around longer than this account is old.  I started in 2006, and have probably had a half dozen different handles over the years due to really just not caring about perk point carryover and life being crazy.

Managed to wrangle at least 4 friends in with me this time, though I suspect I'll only tie down maybe 2.  Who knows.  We've been flying around as a gaggle of between 2 and 5 ship for a few days now, and doing pretty alright. Don't expect any of them to make accounts for the forums though, as they're all early 20s and think your BBS is the grossest thing next to pickled pigs feet on rye.

I wanted to say good fights to anyone that has run into my little gaggle of fools the last few days, at least for the next two weeks if you see the Rabid Rump Rufflers squad (Samikatz, Rosesnep, Phychane, DogeRam and Fenny) say hi in chat, we mostly keep local vox turned off due to the low bitrate being horrendous on our ears (though, usually one of us will keep it on just in case.)

FWIW the game is still just as fun as its always been (but those map lists need overhaulin!), we've run into some really key issues on onloading my younger friends, and if Dale is still around are some things to consider that aren't just beating around the ENY bush or begging for f2p.  I won't bring them up here as this is basically just a greeting and hearing whining all the time does get very old.  See y'all in the unfriendly skies.

Also dear xbrit, if you're around our 1v1 A6M3 vs Spit16 the other day was incredible.  Thank you for reminding me how much I love this game

Grabbed Goz up there, who grabbed a +1 in their friend Keathery.  I can say with certainty that every day that passes that I can get the younglings into the air (most days) they learn another thing that surprises them about the features.  Myself to, I forgot peeps could take control of others gunners.  We've been having a hoot with that.  For some reason I thought you couldn't, but I don't know where I got that from.

I also found an old friend in the back of the hanger, the Storch.  I have SO many memories of flying out of v bases and doing Storch shenanigans.  That little goblin of an airplane is just as fun now as it was then, maybe even more so as now I've at least a 600 hours in the DCS Gazelle and really learned that I love doing scout stuff in sims.  Wish the Greyhound got spotting range for GVs!  Would add some dynamism to ground engagements and give the little thing a real purpose.

Appreciated!  I'll pass it to our greener folks, though, I find hands on training to be the most effective.  Most of our guys are on the up and up for fast mover stuff in DCS and understand concepts like rate vs radius fighting, corner speeds, things of that nature.  Honestly though, AH is so fun they often throw it out the window.  I don't know if you're aware of how absolutely punishing the 'other' sims can be for peeps.  One of our WT players got nearly weepy when he realized that Aces High is a stress free combat sim that he could just yank open and go with.  It felt like we'd taken a huge weight off of him.

WT will punish you financially (with in game currency losses that it expects you to try and make up for with premium time or planes) if you do poorly at even medium levels of gameplay at higher levels like Jet Sim at top tier right now they're expecting players to go three to one k/d to break even.  While I'd argue that NOTHING is more awful in the Combat Sim community than spending hours and hours every week to learn your chosen DCS module and getting shot down by the unseen bandit after taking 30-40 minutes to plan your flight, start your aircraft, enter coords or write down tacan offsets. Even on servers like Enigmas cold war which see upwards of 40-50 people on most days having that time just swooped out from under you can be very bad on ones willingness to 'go do it again.'

Il-2 falls into that same trap as well, requiring knowledge of engine controls and other things that often get 'in the way' of just going out and having a blast.  I refuse to argue flight model or realism but AH has every single one of the other combat sims beat when it comes to just 'take off and go, stress free.'

Unless of course you're flying a 262 poorly.  :t
