Hey all, the Subject should be pretty self-explanatory. I have been trying to find a Gaming Rig that isnt gonna run me $2,000+ just so I can get back into the fold and play AH without any issues and some other games. So I figured I would check and see if anyone in the AH Community either may have one that they have been trying to sell or get rid of (lol, I can hope right) or someone that has could give me some ideas as far as where to find a system that I can run this on or if I was gonna just say screw it and build my own, what I can use without having to research and go through who knows how many sites and different parts before I find what I need. Any and all help is much appreciated. Thanks.

I might have one that would run AH well enough but the mailing costs would be more than what it's worth.

That said, here in Finland there's companies that refurbish old office desktops and equip them with a decent video card, selling them as "green" gaming computers because much resources have been saved. That might be an option for you as well, finding a few years used office workhorse with a pci-e slot - preferably one that has been used for CAD as those already have a power thirsty video card which makes swapping to a gaming card much easier.

I've got an older system by today's standards that still runs the game well by my standards.

Howdy Red!

At the start of covid i bought a cheap capable pc for my lil brother so he would not be isolated to much. The computer was around $300,- and i got it from a Dutch online market place (marktplaats.nl). He got a Nvidia 1060 videocard, a Intel I5 processor, 8GB of ram and 500GB SSD inside of it. He plays Valorant and Overwatch 2 on it and i am 100% sure it would run AH without a problem. Al tough i am sure he cranked down the settings for the first two games.

The videocard market has been disturbed for some time now but the prices seem to go down somewhat. I think you will be able to find something comparable or better secondhand depending on your budget. If you found something you think might be interesting just link it down below and we have a look if its a good deal.

(man i was looking trough craigslist for the first time and what a terrible website  :uhoh)

Good luck and cheers,

Hi Red -

Microcenter has some great deals on bundles right now - motherboard, CPU, and sometimes FREE memory thrown in.  This could be a good option for you.   And there is a Microcenter right there in Chicago.   They even offer same day computer build services if you'd rather pay someone to do the build.

Hey guys, THANK YOU ALL for the replies. Bizman, I know what your saying as far as finding a PC that even if its older, has the right slots for upgrades. When I started playing in 2009-10 I had a PC that was a few years old and not a Gaming type and at first I could not even get out of the Hangars but after I learned from some of the guys in the Community and some tweaking my stuff, I got to that exact spot where I could run it fine and eventually did upgarde the Video Card, I mean I had to use the flatscreen tv for the monitor because the old monitor couldnt handle it, but it was even better overall. I have been trying to go that route but I do not want to get stuck picking up something that I think can be upgraded and then...no go.

TWCAxe mentioned Craigslist and while I agree with his assessment almost wholly, I did find 2 or 3 potential buys. Ill get a few screenshots and attach them to a second rep :rockly along with the price they have. Give me a second.

That may seem enticing but I’d personally stay away. Apparently Alienware is junk these days.

Ya that Alienware rig sounds a bit too good to be true to me as well.

If your not opposed to building your own a great place to start is pcpartpicker.com/. It lets you know as you pick pieces whether or not they are compatible or not. As well as giving you links to buy the parts. They also sell built rigs.

For AH, you dont need a super machine to run it. I have an i7-3770k CPU (3.5 ghz 8 CPUs), a GTX 1060 6GB video card, 32 MB ram and can run all the bells and whistles. It also runs AH in VR very well too. For other games your interested you'll need to check their minimum requirements.

I actually thought the same thing...but more like, "This is a 65 year old guy with this suped up PC and the way he worded the ad is like it was written while on Meth" but also "what if this guy is trying to get rid of it and had all sorts of Child Porn and that kind of stuff?"

I have always stayed away from Alienware for the pure fact they charge more than I would pay for a Car for their rigs and in 6 months it is gonna be old lol. And as The Fugitive mentioned, I was able to run it with my settings down and what not on an old PC back in 09-10, but I want to get one that is enough to run it seamlessly ya know. I mean hell, after 13 years I still think it is the best and most historically accurate, the dynamics weapons and ballistics, of any game before or since. I do not want to get stuck with War Thunder cuz I see how that game is. Looks great, but its lkke put crosshairs on target and shoot no matter how far or where u are and hits. LAME lol.

Also, I was looking to see if I could find Bruv and the Few just to drop a hows it been and i cant recall finding them. They still breaking hearts in the skies lol. Or J0KERS, the Dynamite Gang???

I'm not a big fan of Dell, and Alienware is owned by them.

The biggest question is what is your budget? You can build a good gaming computer for $1,100 -$1,200.

Buying used PCs outta warranty is always risky. I’ve seen people spend a lot of money on machines with totally fried MBs GPUs CPUs etc. If you are going to get something used MAKE SURE to do a clean OS install, that’ll make sure you don’t inherit any software isssues like the one you mentioned.

Microcenter is a great place to get something in your price range, PCpartpicker is another good way to price out a build and make sure everything is compatible. You could always buy all the basics like the power supply motherboard SSD/HDD, memory and get the Graphics card used. Gtx 1660s and RX580s are great budget options that are Sub $200 used and can handle AH as well as newer titles at modest settings.

What Stepsis said.  ^^^

I also think gpu.userbenchmark.com is interesting for comparing performance and prices of video cards against each other.

If that Alienware works it's a pretty good deal. The video card is a bit lacking but I think it'd be fine for AH. If you have the means to test it prior to money exchange it would be worth it. Mainly a stress test or two and Crystal Disk Info to check the drives. The only issue I have with Dell/Alienware/HP etc is they tend to have some proprietary stuff like power supplies so it makes it hard to upgrade in the future. Other than that, the parts are the parts so they aren't really "junk".

With that said, for a bit more money you can have a PC with a full warranty for a while which is likely a better option if you don't feel like troubleshooting stuff yourself.

It's nothing hot, but the rig I started my Aces High career on is currently in my closet gathering dust. IIRC it has a 250 GB SSD, an NVIDIA GT 710 graphics card, 16 GB of RAM, and I think an intel i3 quad core CPU. It's nothing hot and you'll have to run Aces High on low graphics, but it DOES run Aces High stable with high FPS, although it won't be anything pretty.

Let me know if you're interested, maybe we can work something out.   :joystick:
