Bf 110G-2 Cannon Boat
« on: April 04, 2023, 03:55:11 PM »
Bf 110G-2 of 4./Zg 76 in October, 1943. Based in Wertheim am Main in central Germany, this squadron was tasked with defending Germany from American heavy bombers. The long range of the 110 meant that they could loiter for hours and be diverted to wherever the bombers were approaching from. At this time, the 110's of Zg 76 were often employing the 37mm BK 3,7 canon from an underside gondola. M8+LM was photographed with this armament installed. Sadly, in AH, we only have the twin 20mm cannon gondola. This aircraft features a broad yellow tail band as it's Reich Defense ID marking. The outside surfaces of the vertical tails were painted white to indicate it's pilot as a flight leader. The prop spinners were painted black and white with a red dot on the tip. The port side spinner also had a thin white stripe on it's base plate.
