There an air show coming up?
« on: May 18, 2023, 01:54:45 PM »
Heard a loud dull roar in the air and after looking around seen 6 aircraft in formation flying. Pulled up flightaware app and seen 4 of them were t6 Texans painted as japanese aircraft and broadcasting their ads-b data, all labeled as "tora/toratoratora". 1 was a bomber and couldnt tell the other but it was a multi engine aircraft as they were up there pretty good, but no adsb being broadcast on those. They were flying east over southern il.  Around 920am. Even off at a distance on approach, they were by far the loudest things in the sky

Thats exactly who it was that flew over.  They were over at scott AFB (which I didnt know there was an air show there until it was too late)

4 T6 texans and 2 bombers that went over.

It was an awesome sight to see especially since I heard them coming a ways before I finally seen them off in the distance approaching. A sound I wont forget hearing

Man, I saw them for the first time last weekend at Seymour Johnson AFB in Goldsboro, NC. What an incredible show they put on. It was super chaotic and those guys were well trained to fly predetermined routes to perfection. It was fun to watch as a pilot, knowing how precise and careful they had to be; add the spectator experience of stuff blowing up and planes everywhere and it equaled to a pretty spectacular display.

EDIT: Tried to upload pics but they were massive and I do not want to bother with resizing. /shrug

2023 is the last year for Reno hosting the air races. Hopefully they can find a new home for 2024.
