Thanks to Lyric1 for finding me info for this skin (and many future M3 and M16 skins). This was a fairly complex template to do as it involved skinning both the outside and inside of the vehicle, plus the tracks. With all the lighting files this was fifteen image files in all.
This M3A1 half track was part of A Company, 17th Armored Engineer Battalion and came ashore at Omaha Beach on June 9th 1944. It was marked with a full complement of air recognition US stars. Recently arrived from England it would have likely had a "CAUTION, LEFT HAND DRIVE" warning on the back to warn British motorists to be wary of overtaking it. This warning and some of the stars were sometimes painted over by their crews later on to make the vehicle less visible.
As part of the 2nd Armored Division "Hell on Wheels" the 17th Armored Engineers fought in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France and Germany. Their tasks included mine clearance and bridge building under fire.
