Oboe, the original Gunfighters had no connection to the Gunfighters formed in Bland in 1990-91.  I do not know if that is the squadron you are tracking, it was "Scav's" squad of we go diving down fame.

Also the DFA were formed in 1990-91 in Aland.  Again I do not know if that squad is the DFA you are tracking, but it was quite the famous and popular squadron.
It's my understanding there was a squad in AW using the name Death From Above prior to the current DFA.  I'm not sure what happened to the earlier DFA, but I assume they must have disbanded prior to 1998.

Doing some research revealed that the 327th Steel Talons was formed in December 1998, formally. The original group flew in A land in the FR arena in Air Warrior III, and was part of the original KOTH Tournament. The core group also attended the AW III Con in 2000, and won 6 awards in the Ladder Tournaments. When EA killed Air Warrior III, we moved to Aces High. Several have gone inactive off and on over the years. We've also had a number who have made their final flight. The squadron still has a website, https://327th.com/main.htm, with a full roster https://327th.com/roster.htm, a history of the formation of the squad in Air Warrior III https://327th.com/history.html, and a memorial https://327th.com/GoldenTalonsRoster.htm.

Thank you Capt Virgil Hilts, for the info about the 327th Steel Talons.  I've updated the timeline to reflect the more recent start date of Dec '98.  You guys have had quite a few members over the years!  I wonder whatever happened to KOOL?

Oboe,

The Gunfighters were formed in Bland in 1991 as part of a Group with the WarHawks and The Musketeers.  I do not know were you are getting the 1988 date from unless we are talking about two different squadrons.  The original CO was Lancer a guy from Arizona.  I think Heater and HiTech were both in that squadron at the same time.  The Turkey Hams were the squadron I was trying to remember, Jeff "Quarters" Hanna was their original CO.  Scavanger was in that squadron.

I suggest you check out this thread..

The "GumBiters"!  Yee-haw!   That was fun reading.   Thanks for the info Fencer - I don't recall where my original dates came from; I found my original thread where I had it listed as "late 80s" - Hitech posted in that thread linked below, saying he was an original member of the squad, but I don't recall where the date came from.   I've moved their start date to 1991 per your suggestion.

Also, from that thread and the wonderful invention of the internet wayback machine, I was able to find IMO one of the great all-time squad logos:

I'll have to grey this out as the squad is no longer active, but I wanted you guys to see it.  Here's what Dos Equis said about it:

Quote

I commissioned an artist by the name of Mary Lynn Skirvin to draw the FlyingPigs logo. I'm ashamed to say I can't find the logo at the moment, and the flyingpigs.com web site is no more.
But it was so top notch that I had to send cease and desist letters to guys in Singapore who made coffee cups and t-shirts with the logo and sold them on the street. A USAF squadron approached
the Pigs and the flying pigs logo is now the official logo of a real B2 bomber, the logo was etched on the plane itself, on a steel plate near the ladder.

Latest iteration:

Now, one more squad logo I'd like to find.  I think it was from a group called the "Elite Aces + 1 Mexican" and it featured Disney's Big Bad Wolf character posing with a knife and fork, ready to devour noobs.

Oboe, KOOL has been in and out over the years. The email address on the squad site might still be good.

Yes, we used to welcome and train new flyers, it was part of the squad platform. So we had a ton of people go through.

TA57x is the CO of TA's Aerofighters and by extension TA's murder of crows Inc, i will try to get in touch with him too see when the squad was exactly created but i believe around 2005 era.

Is there a way to find the squadron insignia on the squads page?

TA isn't around much at least in my time zone, try shakey61/higheye if they're sober.

Thanks for your memories, Molsman.  The Raiders sound like they were a great bunch to fly with!

I've searched for a AH website for them but wasn't able to find anything.  Came up with nothing in the Wayback Machine also...
