what does that have to do with water freezing?

What do you suppose happens to a laminate when water is trapped between laminate layers?

Osmosis happens if there are any voids in the laminate.

It's not freezing down there though.

The experts are all saying the same things. Untested carbon fiber being stressed by multiple dives and finally giving in. From pressure and release of pressure. Carbon being brittle and not used for this purpose for a good reaon.

This guy new better though.

The damage didn’t happen “down there” but “down there” is where the ice damaged cylinder failed.

Same thing happens to boat engines that weren’t winterized properly.     Ice within expands to the point of breaking the cast iron engine blocks.

This seems to be the most likely of events.

where are you even getting your ice damage theory from? Thin air?  What makes you think they ley the thing ice over?

It’s basic physics……and seeing pictures of their subs in a parking lot full of snow.

The tube was known to have voids because David Lockridge pointed them out.

If water were forced into voids at 6000psi, it’s rate of evaporation depends on the the size of the opening where the water came in.
The nature of spun layers means you could end up with a long capillary void following the path of the strand.    If said strand was “wetted” with not enough “epoxy”, then you could end up with water that would take months or years to evaporate.

Now you freeze the tube and the water within expands around around 9% at 30,000psi……shit gets broken.
It would have been much stronger if hand laid if they vacuum bagging to remove bubbles.

Add to that being pressurized from the outside. The cylinder compresses, getting smaller. This could cause sections to delaminate.

I'm just wondering where the theory of freezing water is coming from. Who's to say it's ever been in an environment that would allow the water to freeze?

The most likely thing was the port window blew out, or the carbon fiber just broke apart because it could not handle the pressure

Dah, a post said it was stored outside and was covered in snow.

Now it’s coming out that they coated the rough carbon fiber finish with rhinoliner.

Psst they are dead and pretty sure that Titanic sub tour is as dead

Seems like a waste of time speculating on how the millionaires died at this point

There's a transcript of the communications that they had with the sub before it lost communications. They definitely knew what was going on. They were trying to surface.
If you Google it you'll see it. It was just on the news sites last night.

They heard cracking sounds from the back of the sub. And then they tried to surface but the sub was still descending to at too fast of a rate. Then they jettisoned their ballast and were barely moving up. So then they jettisoned the frame that goes around it and they were moving up but slowly.

And that's when communications were lost.

Same as speculating on aviation accidents?

I can see the footprints in the snow in the background.
Also, the clothing suggests the temperatures there in December are less than tropical.
