I've increased my SA while driving

I've been using a Android app called JBV1 (John Boy's app for Valentine One) although it does not require a Valentine One for most of its features.

I started using it just go get better false alert filtering for my radar detector but I'm absolutely amazed by how much it has increased my situational awareness when I'm on the road due to its other features. 

It warns me through my speakers whenever the speed limit is going to decrease ahead and marks it on the map, displays law enforcement aircraft in my vicinity, gives me police alerts generated by either Waze or Google maps users (still trying to figure out which, or both), overlays a radar heat map generated by crowd sourced data from Valentine One users and it shows me live parcipitation on the map.

I don't consider myself to be much of a speeder but it's very important to me that I keep my no moving violations streak since 2005 going.

I've got a good old navigator in my car and it should know the speed limits and warn when I exceed them. Problem is, the information is sometimes way behind, especially if there has been a temporary limit due to a major road work. Or vice versa, there's a temporary restriction but the navi tells that the limit is 20 kph higher. Not to mention that the navi doesn't care about our winter limits which are 80 kph instead of 100 but only on certain tracks.

No, and I didn't mean to belittle you or your experience with JohnBoy. Just wanted to point out that they can't be trusted. As you said, eyeballs and common sense are still needed.

It's easy to see the flaws in the data when you're driving your daily routes. But there's been situations on longer tracks, even familiar but seldom used ones, where the speed limits have been changed for an unobvious reason and I've missed the new speed limit sign.

A few decades ago my work made me drive some 100 mile stretches to any direction from here and I soon learned the speed limits. But the roads wore and the cheapest way to keep them driveable was and still is to lower the speed limit instead of rebuilding the tarmac.

Google bought out Waze and they work as one. My Denali has its own nav but I often use Google navigation through Android Auto. It all works seamlessly. Alerts for speed traps, traffic, school zones, and more.

I haven't gotten a ticket since 1988.   

I got that ticket when I took my radar detector out of the glove box and slid it onto one of my visors and immediately lights behind me.   
Radar detector was not plugged in but I was in virginia about 1000 yards from the north carolina border. 

I gave the detector away and haven't gotten a ticket since.
