Where Are All My AH Baseball Fans?
« on: July 30, 2023, 06:39:59 PM »
The AL East is going to be a lot of fun in about a month. I’m a lifelong Yankees fan but not feeling too comfy about their chances. Looks like Judge is ok at least. Love the new rules too. Should be an interesting run to the series for both sides. Looking forward to it.

Red Sox fan here. Not that enthused with the club this season, but at least we're doing better than your Yankees.  :neener:

Born in ATL and life long Braves fan. Was incredibly luckily to grow up and be a pitcher during the 90s-2000s braves seasons. Got to fly RC planes with Javier Lopez with my dad. He bought me a coke. Andres Galarraga threw me a ball after the inning one day. Greg Maddox was my favorite. One night, I threw 14 strike outs on the same night John Smoltz threw 14 strike outs. Was one of my best games. Practiced hard and played for a few travel teams and in high school. Should have really kept playing Baseball instead of switching to Tennis. Was the turning point in my life I think. Just had to be in the same season  :bhead. Always wondered how different my life would have been had I kept playing. Life on the road and college would have sucked a lot more though I think. My senior year, my high school team got to play on Turner Field for the state championship. Damn I was jealous. Would have won it if I were pitching.  :D Had one of the nastiest curveball anyone ever seen for my age. I'd make em duck out of the way and it would end up right across the plate for a strike. I was taught how to throw it the right way. Damn I miss those days.

So glad to see the Braves playing as well as they are now. Look at this amazing season so far (67-36). Between 2008 - 2018 it was super rough. We could not develop a real team with long term Braves. That was tough coming from the 90s Braves where you had so many classic guys. Cannot freaking believe they won the world series 2 years ago, especially without Acuna. Man I bet MLB.com made so much money off that win. I bought a ton of stuff lol.

Went ahead and picked up an Aaron Judge, Ohtani, and Freddy Freeman rookie card. Might have to get an Acuna one too. I know those have got to be worth something one day. I think Judge could seriously hit the most HRs ever If he can stay healthy.

Old quote from a pitching book my dad use to teach me:

"Only certainties in life are Death, Taxes, and rule changes unfavorable to pitchers"

Boy does that still ring true today.

Giants fan from way back.

Like the rule changes, gives the game a nice pace.

Still think pitchers should have to hit, as well as field their position.  :old:

Old man yells at cloud.  :old:

That is the terminology each and every one used. Since I have not watched baseball since Rusty Staub played, I don't have an opinion on the changes.

Lifelong Cards fan. Rough season for us!  :bhead

Like the new rules and they were needed. Umpires could use some work.  :bhead

Sox fan. I enjoy the new rules despite being skeptical about them prior to the season starting. The pitch clock was much needed and it's nice to have games only take a couple hours again. I also don't mind banning the shift. On one hand I get the argument of "the hitter needs to learn how to hit different", but also, why is your 3B standing in shallow right field?

Yankees suck.

I was also very happy they banned the shift. It's not like the first baseman can go do the same in left field. It was IMO really hurting lefties, albeit they should have just bunted every time down the 3rd base line, but how fun is that. The shift to me was sort of non traditional. I also like the pitch timer. Didn't think I would but it keeps the game rolling on a tempo. Not sure how I feel about the catcher not being able to be infront of home plate on the baseline but I guess it does serve a safety purpose. I also think it was definitely needed at second base to avoid the runner doing serious damage to the SS/2B trying to throw to first for the double.

Also glad the shift is out. There are some players who might have played a year or two longer x Mark Texeria comes to mind. Some teen the other day pulled an outfielder into the infield.

But also um a bunt would have been a base hit most of the time in the shift.
