Hard to believe such a beautiful place and so full of resources was purchased for $7 million, and considered by some to be a “folly”.

Where were these taken. Homer, Seward, Ketchikan? They are dip netting Reds in the mouth of the Kenai river.

I was born in Alaska and even as a kid we knew it was special. Now I live in Washington state and visit often. And it is still the most beautiful place I've ever been to. And that's after being to Europe, Asia, Mediterranean and Middle east.

The pictures don't do it justice. When I took my wife there the first time (from the Midwest). She was so impressed about how beautiful Washington (eastern) is. After coming back from Alaska she said Washington looked like a dump. An over exaggeration to be sure, but I always tell people in Washington who haven't been to Alaska that, Alaska is Washington on steroids.

Yes the scenic view is something to be said as you poke your head up out of the igloo. However sunny Fla. has hot chick's in bikini's, just saying as you evade the Brown bear tracking you. Great place America were you can find such variety.

Went to Alaska after having grown up in central Africa, got drafted for Vietnam. Joined the Air Force, then was stationed at Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage. Met my wife there, after I got out in 1976, we moved to Kenai where we raised our 4 kids. Moved back to Texas in 96 to take care of Mom and Dad.

Oldest still lives in Soldotna, we go up every couple of years to visit.  :salute

My dad got transfered out of Alaska to Galveston Texas. Total culture shock! We lived one block from the beach. The water was like warm like bath water.
