Lawnboys and Cessnas
« on: November 13, 2001, 11:47:00 AM »
Last night I jumped in my 205 for a couple of flights.
My middle son, a 12 year old aircraft fan, is behind me playing a Starwars game on the other PC.
I hit the starter and crank up the old Italian Beast.
When I throttle it up he turns around laughing and delcares, "That sounds just like Mr. Joe's new lawn mower!"
Mr. Joe is my neighbor.  He's sort of a fixer upper fellow and he apparently got his hands on an old Lawnboy push mower.
My kid is right.  The 205 sound I had loaded sounds EXACTLY like it!

He also noted that when he flies off line, that some of the planes sound just like the Cessna SkyHawk we rode in a few months ago.
We often take 10 on the way home from his school and sip on a Slurpee while watching the planes from the local flying school. He can tell a Citabria from a SkyHawk when they fly over the house.
He knows his stuff.

So, to my point.
Some of the sounds found here are OUTSTANDING! Deep, rumble of huge cylinders with short exhaust stacks and heavy props beating on the wind and churning out massive amounts of power.
But, there are a larger majority that sound more like toys.

This is just my (our if you include my son) point of view.  It is not intended to hurt anyone's feelings, but to give reference for future sound considerations.  ;)

I remember a short conversation we had on Ch. 1 a couple weeks ago funked about the engine sound that Mitsu uses for the Dora.  I was checking all over for a recorded sample of the Jumo, but failed.  I did see the site that you mentioned though.  The only thing that they have that may come close is the 109 right?  I forgot what you told me, something like most inverted vee's with <forgot what kind of supercharger you said exactly> sound basically the same.

For now I'm using the sound in Flakbait's pack.  I know there is a site out there that is dedicated to the spitfire and the 109 and has sound samples too (it's easily found).  If they sound the same then I guess it's a keeper.

Yeah I think a Jumo and a DB twelve would sound pretty similar.  Unless there is something I am not aware of, they are very similar in design.
