Ultimate Sound Pack 2.0
« on: August 03, 2001, 02:42:00 PM »
I finally downloaded it for my new AH installation.  Very very nice.    :)

I would recommend just distributing it as a ZIP file though.  My AH sound path is "d:\Program Files\Aces High\sounds", so I pointed the installer (using the "..." box) at that directory.

When I installed part 1 it put the files in "d:\Program Files\Aces High\sounds\HTC\Aces High\sounds".

Part 2 put files in some other interesting location.  I think it was "d:\Program Files\HTC\Aces High\sounds".

The patch actually put the files where it was supposed to.

It wasn't a disaster because I was able to manually move the files to the proper locations once I figured out what was happening.  But if I just had a zip file with subdirectories that I could extract to the "sounds" directory, it would have been easier.

Just nitpicking though, really nice job!!!

Oops, seems my expertise with ZipCentral needs work. But you should note something Funky; there ain't a patch for 2.0! I had one available for updating 1.0 to 2.0 but there is no patch for the last incarnation. I fixed all the bugs for 1.0 with 2.0 and did new sounds for the new aircraft. This time, I triple-checked everything before releasing it.

As for the installation glitch, I just fixed it. Once the 1.08 aircraft are announced I'll know if I can do v3.0 or not. The reason I did it as two installers versus zip files was my system would lock up trying to unzip a 13 meg file. Old comp and no money to get a new one; which should change in the next month or so I hope!

Glad you're enjoying AH with my sounds, but be careful huh? I don't want to find you in jail just cause you wanted to turn the sound up!

DOH on the patch.  I must not have read the instructions.   :)

As for jail, that won't happen until I can get that Promedia 5.1 setup.   :)

Thanks again for the nice sound pack!

Hit the files section, you'll see a link to the pack in there. One note, install it to the directory the HTC folder is in, and NOT anyplace else. It's a glitch with the installer.

If your directory is "C:\Program Files\HTC\Aces High" then extract it in C:\Program Files" to make it install correctly. If you just installed AH to a plain folder like "D:\AH" then you've got to extract the pack some place else and move all the files into the "sounds" folder manually. Once I find out how much space I'm allowed I might be able to host a local copy on my site.

I just checked the HTC download page and didn't find this link.  I think it used to be there, but I see the link above.  Thanks.

Flakbait, your sounds are excellent. Using a compilation of yours, and the 205+Ki61 by Mitsu..

Just one thing.. your website is GREAT!

I especially like that graphic you have on the intro page.

flak, I would just like to take the opportunity to thank you for your hard work.  I've been using your sound pack for ages now, and increases my enjoyment of AH by about a bazillion percent.  It's like it's a completely new game.  <S!>

I didn't see a 1 meg patch that you talked about on your website.

If you downloaded v 1.0 of this sound pack, then simply download the one meg patch below and you will have updated it to v 2.0 standards.

However, with DSL it didn't take long to DL the 11 meg file anyway!

That was a goof on my part. The patch hasn't been available in some time, I just forgot to pull the mention of it. Oops. It's fixed now. If all you downloaded was the 11 meg file, you're missing half the pack. There's two files, one 14 megs, the other 11, which make up this sound pack. The next release will have a single 24 meg file to download. More of a 2.5 than a 3.0 it's mostly just me fixing sounds that I didn't like. I'm still messing with things, fixing little glitches, that kind of thing. When it's ready I'll let yall know.
