No, you can sail a CV right up to a coastal base, shell the town and base down to nothing and the only alert the the enemy will never be alerted as long as no planes take off from the carrier. It's a gross oversight in the game mechanics and it's exploited at every opportunity by the players that want to avoid combat in a combat game.
My question was not about an "alert", My question was about the ship being visible.  The ship is visible, correct?  So if I up at my costal base and an nme ship is off the coast , I'll see the ship, right?

Yeah, of course. You'll always see it visually.

The virtual townspeople can see the fleet, too.  They just don't bother to report it, as the 16" shells rain down.

There should be shore guns that fire automatically if fleets are in range like aa does now for planes

And the bases should flash...

Hey not a bad idea. Could maybe add some auto ack from bases over the cv like it has for itself.
Back in 2022 after a loooooong break from 2010. Old name Ratpack, same for the BBS.

Squad I did the most tours with were the Excaliburs then The 172nd Rabid Dogs. Still trying to talk Illigaf, Coola, Oldman22, and Joecrow into coming back instead of being boring old farts!

I dont think it is. It certainly extends the spotter range of a CV group with someone park on the ship. An enemy can fly by just out side of ack range and may never spot a CV, but with someone park on it like that they will certainly see an Icon that isnt moving much in the middle of the sea.

It's a game of skill!

Speaking of which, how can you tell when the actual carrier has been sunk?

Intended or not, how do you stop it with out Hitech becoming the Gestapo?

A plane should not be able to land on any ship except the cv

You'd think programming that would not be too difficult

Maybe landing on a lvt or pt boat is next...

The ships go quickly more so during turning. Also landing is a big word. I usually settle for landing at least 60% on the parts between those two rear cranes and one of the gun turrets.
