Here's a variation of B, based on Spikes recommendation to swap the Balkan Cross in for the Luftwaffe Eagle.  I also tried to take into account Brookes thoughts about the wider outer band and larger lettering:

The wider outer bands and lettering can be done for the other two sample patches also...

So far, me thinks this variation is more likely to come out in threading. Cool watching these evolve.

FYI, Balkenkreuz translates as 'beam cross' or 'bar cross', not Balkan.

I'm leaning towards C.
At 3" (or what ever it is) it has the least distraction from the text and seems to be as one. Ya don't have to study it. Simple is good.

Very cool so far...

Can you add the 100th Bomb group on the tail of the 17?

Ditto  "WHITE 11"
"Masters of the Air" Scenario -JG54

Not enough resolution on patch for that at that size of tail.

Question for Brooke

Do all the patch designs have to be circular?   I've been looking at patches for ideas, and there are a number of different shapes - shields, ovals, rounded rectangles, inverted triangles, etc - are we limited to a strictly circular design?

Also, what about a circular patch with additional text sections above and/or below the circle, as below:

Does the patch maker allow different patch shapes?

I don't think circular is necessarily required:

I just ran across a patch with pretty detailed stitching:

I suppose different outfits have different capabilities, but this shows fine detail is possible.
