Any SubSim Junkies Here?
« on: February 15, 2024, 11:02:49 PM »
In my early pc gaming youth I put a tremendous amount of hours into naval sims during the late 80s and 90’s. Some of my faves were Strike Fleet, Hunt For Red October, and Destroyer Command.

Once the Silent Hunter series came to be I was hooked full stop on subs. Of the five SH games #3 is king and even better modded, 4/5 generations are almost as good but lack this or that in some manner. Any three are great by themselves.

Steam has a sale right now and SH III is only $2.49. I highly recommend you pick it up even if it’s for a super later date. It’s less than a coke at your local gas up.

Sneaking into a port in the dead of night and lighting it up with torpedoes like fireworks is pretty friggin sweet.

Squad I did the most tours with were the Excaliburs then The 172nd Rabid Dogs. Still trying to talk Illigaf, Coola, Oldman22, and Joecrow into coming back instead of being boring old farts!

I played a lot of Cold Waters Dot Mod, one of the best subsiims in forever IMO.

SH3 is a great game to this day, worth a few bucks for sure.

Since Silent Hunter series went dark I've been loving UBOAT.

SH3 was my favorite, if only it could have SH5 graphics...

When I was a kid, the one on right ate a lot of my pocket money. In older age it was done by those depicted at left.

Oh man, loved that game. It was so worth the case or two of pink eye (conjunctivitis) I contracted while playing this.

I had that on my NES. I was way too young to properly enjoy it.

I have been debating downloading Uboat. It looks pretty involved. How do you like it Dolby?

Red Storm Rising was great fun back in the 80's. Cold Waters was expected to be its heir. Haven't tried it in a few years but initially at least it didn't live up to its promise, imo.
