421 Sqn RCAF Spitfire Mk XVI

Thanks to Lyric1 for finding me the info for this skin, which is an adoption of one first done by Jocko in 2009.

This Spitfire Mk XVIe flew with 421 Squadron RCAF who in early 1945 were based at Advanced Landing Ground B.56 near Evere in Belgium. Its pilot was Flight Lieutenant Richard “Hap” Beal. After suffering some combat damage on the 15th of March the aircraft was sent away for repair and was eventually written off in a wheels up landing following engine failure in 1946.

The name "Panama Bound" was painted on the nose above the squadron's red Indian logo. The yellow-bordered roundels in all six positions were an attempt by the 2nd Tactical Air Force to avoid friendly fire both from the ground and from USAAF fighters returning from escort missions.
