Now that ‘YKH’ is gone…
« on: September 17, 2024, 03:01:05 PM »
Now that he’s gone; it has been said folks who got his help benefited from some of his skills.
I wasn’t in that group and sort of believe this  :old:  :joystick:  has seen his best days and isn’t dedicated enough to improve much, although just flying more would do that, and I was a wondering….
What did YKH teach you that made you better in Aces High?
Far too many, if not most, people on this Board post just to say something opposed to posting when they have something to say.

I thought I was fairly smooth with my controls, not the "yanking fool" I was when I started, but after watching his YouTube videos I saw that I wasnt even close.....yet. I have been working on flying smoother. Between scaling (which YKW said wouldnt help) and just working at being smooth I find that it is easier to fight many fights as Im not fighting MY plane as well as the other guys.

And patience. Between him and "nrshida" being patient and waiting for the shot instead of forcing a shot is a whole new world.

I took advice that HT gave to someone here, forgot who unfortunately, and mapped the trigger to my throttle for a different sim. It really seemed to help. Do I still suck? Absolutely but my hit % seemed a bunch better. I'm gonna give it try over here as well.

BBS has been more civil and quieter so far anyway. Let’s hope ALL THE PEOPLE that were making it a cess pool have also been shown the door.
Back in 2022 after a loooooong break from 2010. Old name Ratpack, same for the BBS.

Squad I did the most tours with were the Excaliburs then The 172nd Rabid Dogs. Still trying to talk Illigaf, Coola, Oldman22, and Joecrow into coming back instead of being boring old farts!

Lazerr, 10 months of near constant berating, belittling and harassing dozens of members of the community and game probably should allow for more than a couple days. There are players who likely don’t know yet…

I know of at least two players who lurk here and never comment but they look maybe once a month…

I learned zero from him other than tactics to counter being specifically hunted, none of which I ever had to use before and hopefully won’t again. It’s not the same at all as knowing Joker or Kamurogi will recognize you when you up to defend, they will stay with their base capture objective.
They're casting their bait over there, see?

He definitely had e-management down to an art. Would I consider him in the top ten, no. I suspect if the muppets still flew about 75% would clobber the hell out of him.

lol. Skyyr dueled almost every Muppet that was playing when he flew and he beat every one of them. The only guy who he didn't flat-out dominate was Violator who he went 1-1 with. Grizz, INK, and sc0tch backed out (INK and sc0tch previously demanded that he duel them until they saw all thei squadmates lose) and his duels with Agent360 were so lopsided, he didnt even bother to upload them.

tldr he went 9-1 vs the Muptards.

He dueled you too and I seem to remember you couldn't even get a single kill on him.

I'm not convinced YKW was all skill. I read things on other boards that scream different, which I will keep to myself. He carried this bad reputation everywhere he went. This is not the only place he was shunned for his antics.

What did YKH teach you that made you better in Aces High?

Ill answer:

Skyyr was always willing to go 1 on 1 in the DA and teach dogfighting tactics. Usually we would fly a few rounds and then he'd ask us for a post-fight review of why we thought the fights went the way they did, then he would drill down and ask us why we chose the tactics we did.

In almost every session, what we ended up going back to the basics. He would stress that every single fight was a series of maneuvers, and every maneuver was an individual OODA loop. The trick was identify the situation, select the proper maneuver as quickly as possible, execute it, and then repeat.

What it taught me (and I think most that flew with him) is that dogfighting is both extremely simple and most players (myself included) didnt fully understand that the complexity is in recognizing that and keeping it simple. If you ever sat in comms listening to him talk his way through a fight, it was almost mesmerizing how he could tell you what you were going to do while countering it as you did exactly what he predicted you'd do.

He focused a LOT on basic maneuver selections and the OODA loop. I think that is Skyyr's talent - he's able to break down complex geometry and physics very quickly and simply. This isnt the only sim he flies - he's flown numerous others and he was even better in those, so I know firsthand he wasn't just gaming the game here.

Interesting read
Myself, most people I know with incredible intelligence, totally lack common sense. I'll never understand why people do these type of things to themselves until their hair lights on fire. I work with a lot of high end medical doctors, coders, marketing etc...they can't hit a urinal if their life depended on it., and probably can't even bait a fish hook, better yet tie their own shoes,.. but man that one slice of what they study they are brilliant at,.. anything outside it, step away catastrophic is coming.

I did support a second chance, I didn't know him enough to cast judgement,...it ended the opposite. I needed to be dipped in acid to wash it away.
