I don’t really begrudge people their selections. If you want to bomb, GV, or dogfight. Do so.

My major gripe really comes from folks avoiding engagement with other players which is the fundamental point of an online game. The strat locations on Buzzsaw seem to promote milk runs where peeps are just blowing stuff up that doesn’t really shoot back. I find myself seeking engagement more on buzzsaw than actually fighting which is probably why the map irks me.

So flanking the enemy is forbidden here?  Along with other basic tactics that don't hit the enemy head on?

No, you run your flanking maneuver and when the other team reacts to it and attacks you your group bails and moves someplace else to avoid having to fight for themselves

We have many players who will come into a battle area and from alt do nothing but dive in try for a pick and zoom away to spend the next 3-5 minutes getting back up on their perch before making another pass. They are avoiding a fight to try for picks.

Never said anything like that. Sorry you took it that way.

Some people love buzzsaw and I can’t understand why. My assumption is that it’s favored by bomber pilots and GV guys because of the easy access to strats?

I was on the perimeter in my 38 for awhile picking up bombers that were sneaking around the south to strats. Some high, some low, all were fairly easy to locate... even when under the dar.

You do understand that flanking requires hiding from the enemy for a portion of the time the flanking is going on?

You guys get your way and it will be airstarts 10 miles apart from the enemy and every plane and vehicle shows a giant arrow over them at all times.

With the way the radar is, "hiding" is pretty much impossible to do.

Lets say you do your flanking maneuver gets 3/4s of the way through, your spotted and a few enemy close on your position, what do you do? Do you run like hell, bail and call it a wash, or try to fight your way through?

Personally, being on either side of that scenario, I'd fight it out. Thats why Im here, for the fights. Unfortunately far to many dont want the fight and they would run or as a last resort bail

I understand what flanking is and how it works. Or I think I do? Admittedly it has been more than a couple decades since my time in the Army. Maybe I should study what a milk run is and compare that to a flanking maneuver? I didn’t think they were the same thing but times do change.

As far as radar goes I’m quite the opposite and that’s well documented all over these boards. Also, as a guy who’s spends the majority of his time in AH in a fat relatively low jug, I don’t really need air starts but they might be handy for hunting people who are milk running inanimate objects when no one seems to want to cross paths. Of course that won’t stop them from hiding in buildings or running or bailing the second I come in range.

Perhaps (just perhaps) you might take a breath before you go off on people or ask for clarification before you make inaccurate assumptions about what they’re trying to convey?

I am unhappy about the changes that removed strategy and tactics from this sim.

Some of my behavior, you might call avoidance in that I bomb and defend strats often but is it avoidance if nobody cares to defend?

I only bomb fields when I need that field to spring another attack.

I only bomb strats if my side is outnumbered and needs longer down times and I don't bail but rather I will go after any plane with any plane that has guns.   I've actually downed some HQs with a ".salvo 13" which saves one bomb for the resuppliers in their M3s.
They often travel in close groups.    Biggamer got it more than once.

What is even more fun is having someone like "postman" attach as a gunner and getting to chase C47s with him shooting them down.
First time I ever saw a landing message for the attached gunner.

I just don't think people are exploring options other than the same old same ol' and they want the game changed because the same old same ol' became boring.

You can do things like bomb enemy strats and turn around to shoot down your would be interceptors.
Even better with a hotpad or two.

It was more interesting when the bomber icons were the same size as the fighter icons so you could lure up intercepting fighters and shoot them down..........but now everybody knows what is above without lifting a plane to check.

You’re not in a minority here.

I wholeheartedly agree with you about the radar in particular. It’s been horrible for the game. Even worse than bomber/fighter icons showing on the map is the fact that every GV and airplane is painting you for the entire enemy to see when you’re in icon range. The enemy knows what you are and which way you’re headed. This is especially bad for bombers. One fighter climbing out AFK could ruin your entire sortie because every enemy within a sector or two can vector themselves, not just in your direction, but directly along your flight path. They can correct if you turn too. Not only making interception that much easier but also setting themselves up for optimum attack passes. If your pursuer is a fighter that is having a hard time catching you because they’re trying to climb to you, they’re showing everyone else EXACTLY where you are whether you’re in a radar ring or not. Even though that fighter isn’t much of a threat until they get to altitude, other players could be launching 163 and 262 because you’re already in their territory and, since they know exactly where you are and what direction your pointed. They can easily tell which strat you’re targeting and pick the perfect airbase to scramble from.

Plus…why even have a radar strat or radar rings if they’re basically rendered useless by magic AWACS? So I totally get why you’re “flanking”. You’re trying to set up a successful run which is made ever harder by the dumbing down of the game under the guise of making it look busier.

My earlier statements weren’t pointing at anyone or group in particular. Just guesses as to why some like Buzzaw so much. I’ve spent a lot of time on that map seeking out players who don’t seem to want to be found at all. Which really makes me scratch my head. Why are you here if you just hide/run/bail at the first sign of conflict?

Please don’t tell anyone I enjoyed a couple flights on buzzsaw the other night.

Crap was that out loud?

Crater is one of my top OG maps I like.

Back in 2022 after a loooooong break from 2010. Old name Ratpack, same for the BBS.

Squad I did the most tours with were the Excaliburs then The 172nd Rabid Dogs. Still trying to talk Illigaf, Coola, Oldman22, and Joecrow into coming back instead of being boring old farts!
