Why do we have 200 ?
« on: November 26, 2024, 10:01:31 AM »

Is it a positive thing ?

I don't tune to it because I think it might be full of negative whining B/S.

Is it ?

If it is do people tune to it because they enjoy negative whining B/S.

IF they do good luck to them if that is how they enjoy themselves  :D

I think it is worth remembering it is an option not a must do.

It can be a whinefest sometimes, but I like to talk to people on the other side sometimes and we can’t PM any more for some reason.

It is tempting after one has been ganged or hoed but it doesn't change anything. I hoed someone yesterday and I still feel dirty  :D

Always has to be one A$wipe to ruin it for everyone. That's why cross team PMs are no longer... really too bad. Very tough to help a noobie out if on the other team.

Seems like the better move would’ve been to remove pm privs from people who cannot be trusted to be normal humans but not my call. It’s a shame, I liked talking about fights with people without it seeming like a “look at me” post on 200.

200 is 100% opt-in (altho' some just tune to look for something to feel offended about, almost never actually using it.)

Nothing stops those on same side (ch2) from helping newbies; and ch6(1) orange is public.

Nothing stops people from any country from declaring and tuning, say ch 225 as the snowflake PLUR channel.  Any of the ch200s are opt-in and visible to anyone who tunes one.

People today are both thin-skinned, their egos being unable to take dings about their gameplay, and mundane in how they'll reach outside of game context in trying to protect their fragile gaming ego, often with base vulgarity and immature commentary.

Again, ch200 is 100% OPT-IN.

Can people not tuning to 200 see a <S> thrown their way or respond in kind? I was kinda hoping the .S thing circumnavigated the channel tuning stuff.
Saluting as often as I have really has helped with my typing.

yes.   .s <playername>  sends a salute that he (and everyone else) sees.

you can instantly return a salute with .rs (no name needed) that everyone will see... or you can use the  .s <playername>

The .s and the .rs do pass the restriction of the "ALL" channel so they are seen.

HTC turned off the "all channel" because  tuning 200 means you are willing to take the crap that sometimes flows there. You have voluntarily tuned in, the "all channel" was forced on you.

200 isnt all that bad, but a few apples ruin the fun, like any time Shane is on.

MNM has everyone on the same 223 text and vox

There isn't the issue there with 200 in main

I wonder why..

Yeah but if I see some newb flying a Hurricane 2D as a fighter, and feel bad for him and want to reach out saying he should get a hurricane 2C with Hispanos which would make his time much better. He would not see it on channel 200. I could do it over Orange text. But that may be embarrassing to call them out like that. I wouldn't be able to reach them to go to a 200+ type channel to message them privately.

I agree with you horble, but I'm sure it happened quite a bit to where HTC got tired of it. Typical of online gaming...

The fast paced action in MNM isn't overly conducive for text comms; it's challenging enough just to hit the chk6 key which is why y'all tune and use VOX 223 more than text.

What I've done (when I can - I see questions that I could answer about settings) and some others as well, when we see what seems to be an obvious newbie who doesn't respond on ch200, we'll reach out to their side try to reach out to that newbie. I don't think there's any embarrassment to be had there by anyone.
