I wonder if they remastered the sound on "Midway" which was produced with "sensurround" in mind.

Redtails..the p51 vs 262 ho scene where the 30mm hits looked like .22 shorts..

I hate this gripe more every time I hear it, because everyone I've heard make it somehow forgets how the 30mm round works.

It's a high-explosive mine shell with a contact fuse. It's a grenade. It does it's damage by peppering what it hits with many little bits of hot metal, travelling very fast. And it's going to detonate OUTSIDE the aircraft, because of the contact fuse. If the "reality" you are expecting to see is a body with 30mm diameter holes in it, you are the one who is out of touch.

Lol I am saying he'd been torn to pieces as would his plane.. it was just one example of the stupidity Hollywood used in that film thus ruining it for many..

I thought the fuses had a delay to explode inside the skin of the aircraft?

Either way, contact or delay, based on the damage that can be seen on bombers that survived 30mm hits in WW2, the 51 would have been thoroughly shredded. Hardly likely that either pilot would have time to line up a HO shot when closing speeds were approaching or in excess of 1000 MPH as well. Simple hollywierd drama male bovine fecal matter.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

No pretence of it being a documentary. Film goers want to identify with the heroes. Try watching martial arts movies but focussing on the extras. That's a good laugh.

Single 30 mm hits were generally fatal to fighter planes.

Here is testing done by RAF.  Most hits were judged "probably lethal aerodynamically."
