Lenovo, the case has never been opened.

Now that looks like mine, except the side facing you has glass. This one is cool too but Big Red1 definitely has more character

New desk. Spent three days on that. It has a ton of storage space. Plus it's L shaped which means I can easily move between Consoles.

I've started "collecting" older computers since I'm getting to the point of finding something new to fiddle with. Most recent finds were a 486/66 desktop and a 486/25 dos only laptop that works perfectly fine except the floppy drive is toast so I can't install windows 3.1 on it. .  Got the desktop for $10 and the laptop for free. Got a 4 tier shelf full of computers and parts that  I have come across

I have a fully functioning Compaq portable 286, aka the suitcase, from 1985.

My Mother in law used it in banking. When they were getting new machines, I was able to get the one she used to use for business. This was not too long before she retired from the bank.

That is awesome! And here I thought I had done something by having one for 12-15 years.

I ordered a Ryzen 5 5600X. It should be here in the next week. I haven't chosen a motherboard yet. I need to learn more. The GPU will be the last thing I order. Those are expensive!

Big Red update: I took out all the fans and have new ones arriving tomorrow. Then put in all new ram, 4 sticks of 2 gigs each. Also took out an old CD drive. One cool thing I did was install a little USB 3.0 card with two ports and attached the USB 3.0 cable from the case to it. So now I will have 4 working USB 3.0 ports. The RAM and the USB card were purchased a couple of years ago. I was pretty sick in those days, so I never got much done. I may flash the bios too. I need to learn a bit more on that.

The motherboard on Big Red has an error code, FF. I know that is bad. I read where it probably is a component. If what I have done doesn't fix it, and it probably won't, I'll use Big Red for the new build. Would save some bucks. Hopefully I can also use the power supply.

After deep research and intense study, I installed the 5 5600x into the motherboard. There used to be a gold triangle on the MB and the CPU. There was only a gold triangle on the CPU. After watching a video on how to install the chip I learned that there is one tiny missing pin that you line up the edge of the processor to. Went right in. Thank goodness!

Rusty doesn't even begin to describe me.

GPU and Ram will arrive Sunday. The SSD is installed. That part still puts me in awe, no wires and no cages.
