Tiered monthly subscriptions
« on: February 11, 2025, 11:51:06 AM »
$15 = all planeset..as it is now

$9.95 = early war and midwar planeset

$4.95 = early war planest only

Same if possible with gv's..I  don't know their break down as I don't play them..

Could open up the other planesets as "free" for a week to entice..

That is a good idea.

This is not the first time I heard this.  And may not be the first time it was considered.
Keeping it honest could be the challenge.

I think that is the only idea that could revive the game to what it once was in terms of population.  I think everyone currently subscribed would stay at 14.95.  Sounds like a good way to set a hook into someone in a game with a difficult learning curve.

Still curious why folks don't stick around long after creating an account.   I'm convinced it has something to do with default settings/control mapping...specifically mouse controls. I wouldn't run any type of promotion until that is figured out.  Look what happened with the steam release.

Well you could drop down a tier and only use mid-war planes, but that would mean you couldnt fly the P51   :devil

I've tried getting 2 newbies into the fray along with 2 guys who played AW/WB and AH into this sim. Currently, a friend from AW/WB days is the only one who has stuck around longer than a month or two and he's having a decent time trying to re-learn everything and I think he might stick it out as he's even looking into buying a PC and new HOTAS. The one aspect that has proven to be too much for the others is the overwhelming skill level differential. The average guy in here has multiple years of experience-decades even. Newbies are absolute fodder in this environment and it's quite discouraging. Many in here wouldn't realize there is such a difference in skill level as they can only see the various strata of skill levels contained in this sim. The minimum skill level in here is leaps and bounds over newbies and seals outside this isolated, niche community.

Back in the olden days, AW had arenas dedicated to newbies. They'd learn a minimal amount of skills in the newbie arena while earning points. Once they earned 5000 points, they could no longer fly in the newbie arena and had to move to the regular or real-time arenas. Those arenas were huge and there were plenty of players at an equal skill level to their own that they could rise above with practice before starting to knock down the vets.
The early days of AH was the same. The arenas were well populated and a considerable number were newbs or players with minimal skillsets that one could work their way through with practice. Since then, the population has dwindled leaving the diehards and dedicated to populate the arena. Thus, a tough place for returning or new players to get a foothold. I know there's opportunities for training and whatnot but most people don't want such 1-to-1 interaction, they just want to fight it out amongst folks with similar skillsets and try to rise above before tackling the next strata.
Tough to do when all 110 other pilots in the arena are aces (in comparison) when you first log in and get your feet wet.

Perhaps the tiered plan might work as the lower tiers might attract and keep newbies engaged as maybe there'd be more guys at their own skill level to play against.

I know some will say newbs just need to "nut it up" and deal with it. For most, buying all the stuff then paying $15 for the honor of getting slaughtered for a few months before attaining even a modicum of skill and standing isn't worth the time. There's plenty of other games where you fight folks near your own skill level as you rise and challenge yourself against the next level.
Baby seal onboard, go around!

I posted this idea in another thread
I floated the thought in my own head of how would pay by day work. one thought is you deposit $15-20, each day you log in it subtracts 50 cents. Ya don’t recharge the account until you burn up the 15.

People who don’t play everyday might like this, instead of avoiding the sub completely. Depending hiw much they play 15 could last 6 weeks or two months.

Maybe in-the-game advertising to increase revenue?
You log on and there is a menu with links to products that AH players might like before they pick which arena. YouTube has 5 sec advertising and you click Skip if you are not interested is another option. Many of you might have other suggestions.

That is an excellent idea. The old subscription rate was $30 a month at one time. Maybe make it $30 for a family plan to bring more players in.

I actually like this idea. Like sponsoring a stick or rudder peddles ect, may be a good way to combat any loss from  a tierd subscription or something similar.

My opinion is to only have early war planes free. That way they can still play and learn the game. Just in harder planes, this would really help noobs who pay $15 to get some easier kills, would really entice those players to end up paying the sub. But if still want to play for free, can be cannon fodder for the rest of us. Then you can for sure be 100% FTP model and no one can complain about that.

I suggested something similar awhile back. I think this falls on deaf ears to Hi-Tech or blind eyes. This is a era of "free to play" start ups. You end up paying as you play buying different add ons be it skins, planes, points, terrain ect along the way.

If they could set up a way where it was free to play, maybe with only one available plane and a dedicated area for newer players to learn with a trainer like it used to be along with a promo bump would be great. When this first hit steam was really the time to strike for that.

Then add tiers from there with 15 being full access. Maybe setup a way to buy perk points as well.

The newer generation of players knows very little of subscription-based games. Take WarThunder for  a example.
