This is an adoption of a skin that Jocko did in 2008. Apart from updating the lighting files I have changed the code from QV-H to QV-B based on several photos and a newsreel I have found that show X4179 with this code. While it is possible the code was changed from B to H after these were taken I haven't found any other photos that show it as QV-H, only profiles.
During the Battle of Britain 19 Squadron were issued with the first cannon-armed Spitfires to see service. These had their Hispano cannons mounted on their sides and proved to be hopelessly unreliable, usually jamming after a few rounds had been fired. So in mid-August these aircraft were withdrawn and replaced with conventionally-armed aircraft drawn from a variety of sources. One of these replacement aircraft was X4179 and this was flown by at least two of the squadron's pilots; Flt/Lt Frank Brinsden and Flt/Sgt George Unwin. The latter pilot was flying it when he shot down a Bf 109 on the 13th September, two more 109s on the 15th and a Bf 110 on the 18th. Both pilots survived the war and continued to serve in the RAF afterwards.
