FOV and zoom in film viewer
« on: February 27, 2025, 07:48:22 PM »
I had some fun fights with Shane last night that I actually remembered to film. I wanted to watch them again to take notes on how I got shot down so I can do it more graceful next time. Anyhow, was wondering if there was a trick to getting the FOV and zoom slider to work. I tried the slider as well as the bracket keys to get them working but nothing. I went in-game and tried different FOV settings, saved then went back to films and still no change. Am I missing some setting or keystroke to get it working?
Thanks

You have to hit your zoom key that you use in game.  The sliders adjust the zoom level when you have zoom engaged.

I know what horble suggested isn't what you're looking for.  The only success I've had with it has been using the arrow pad keys and pg up/dwn but you lose recorded views when you make the adjustments - you can still use numpad views to look around in whichever mode you're in (int/ext/chase - fixed seems broken.) You can also save that adjusted view but still won't be able to use it in recorded view mode.

Which view mode were you trying to adjust?  I have the 2 films if you want me to post them so you can see my perspective.  I think I also captured one of them with my nvidia shadowplay (will show my b/o and instruments, where as ahf doesn't)

EDIT: if you're in external view and using pan view, you can use the arrows pad to "zoom" out and watch trails a bit better. Still awkward.

Bummer, I was hoping Horble's tip worked internal/recorded but it's great for external. Your stuff is great for everything except recorded views are broken.

Thanks, Shane. That'd be excellent to see your 2 films. The Nvidia one is probably too big to hassle with though. I must say my aim was embarrassingly bad on the only 2 times I had a decent shot-I easily missed by 25yds. I'll bet there is laughter and fist pounding in your Nvidia film. My 2nd features me getting vis on you then the sound of my landing gear about to shear off. If I ever edit that, I'm leaving that part in for outlandish dweebery's sake.

They were fun fights. Made me work my angles and rudder.

The two films are attached, and a 3rd bonus one in which I had landed with a pw from our 2nd fight and re-upped to head back to you, but a bish la7 was between us - because I was still slowish and he came in fast, I figured it wasn't gonna be a fun fight, so I killed him quick.)  :noid  :joystick: :ahand  (It's also why he came back to pick me while we were having our 3rd fight, lol.)

But ours were fun.  :aok

Thanks Shane. Can't wait to watch and get some learning in.

Yeah, I had blast. My hands haven't trembled like that in years. The adrenal gland still works!

Thanks for the fun, I'm getting all excited for flying again like I did in the old days.

Save them as a yt or something so those of us without aces high can watch them...

Out in the country without AH...for at least another week here

Actually he’s right. You’re kinda taking s harder route.

Ahf does show your instruments. You can backup same as in game or use zoom to see them all.

When using pan mode in FOV and Zoom will control the panning circle size and placement of panning circle.

Also in zoom
Mode page up and down arrows click zoom levels.

Its got a learning curve.

I see what you did there, I might do the same for some other films and make sure I have the eye candy (and shadows) on.  Using Shadowplay and resulting editing/compression with the free clipchamp, I've not been impressed with the end quality compared to the raw .ahf or even bandicam, apparently.

The advantage of a direct screen shows the blackout effects, but is that needed?  Helpful, tho'.

I'll figure out something to get better end quality.

I tried the Nvidia one but I don't know how to edit out my wife's cat whining at me, my weight bench squeaking and Seinfeld going in the background. I love other folks' use of that program but they must be really quiet or are editing the soundtrack somehow. Or maybe there's a setting that cuts the mic, I don't know. Currently, I try the Bandcamp thing, upload to a dropbox folder then download to my Mac and cut out all the parts at the beginning and end where you see me recording my screen etc.
If there's a reasonably cheap piece of software out there that a simpleton like myself could use or a setting for the Nvidia program that leaves out all the noise while I'm recording my screen, please let me know. I know Horble mentioned some stuff but I forgot where. I don't like that Bancamp logo at the top of my flicks for sure.

I do think the blackout effect is needed, it adds to the drama. I'd have liked to set yours to Wagner's Flight of the Valkrie or something and mine to The Benny Hill Show theme song. It'd get flagged or something though.

I use NVIDA Shadowplay to record and it either defaults to or at some point I set it to record my microphone on a seperate audio track.  Then I use Davinci Resolve (free, excellent, easy to do the things I want to do with it) for editing and I use keyframes on my mic track to mute out any background/weird mouth noises that I make when I'm flying.

Thanks, Horble. I'm gonna check out this Davinci thing and look at this Nvidia Shadowplay a bit closer. There's tons of Mac stuff out there but it's a pain moving stuff over there plus my wife is always on that machine.

I do the same as horble, but I grab a bunch of different views from the film viewer. In the case of the divebombing  I made a short copy of that section of the film (use the start, end and copy buttons in the top right of the viewer) Then I can run that section of film over and over so I dont 1 waste time going through the whole film each time because FF and rewind crashes the film viewer.

Once I have the short film I can then use shadow play to copy it from different views. In the dive bombing I would run  once outside and chase, then an inside view, then and inside view zoomed in, then once from the outside and use the view keys to pick and hold a view with the best lighting (sun in the right to light the scean the best.

Then I have all these shadow play video and put them all in Devinci Resolve. I can edit them to he right size clicks and move them around to where I want/need them. I can adjust sounds there as well. Resolve can be as easy as you want it, or as powerful and complicated as you want. There are a lot of youtube videos on how to do things in resolve. Too me a couple hours to tie that pulsing red circle to stick to the spot where the GV was as the plane turned to line up.

At this point my issue is getting good film from the game that I can use. A half hour film might only give me 1 minute or 2 of video, but Im trying to tell a story where others are just trying to show their fight to the world.
