On a small block chevy, there is a bolt on the front of the engine you remove and put a longer one in to hold the fuel pump shaft.

That's good to know. I'm pretty sure the fuel pump on the 6.2 was flush mount and didn't have anything sticking out. For sure I will check that thought. Thanks!

Just approved by the FDA and USDA, 3D printed meat is coming to your plate. Understand what it is and why there's so much excrement.

I think the last word was supposed to be excrement not excitement. I fixed it.

What we didn't realize was that the motor mount was worn and that it was allowing the motor to sag just enough that we couldn't get the full pump to line up properly.

Not even a case of the mount wearing out. The rubber will stretch enough even when new to get an inch or two of clearance. And you can detach the mount on one side (Be sure to have the jack in place first) to get even more clearance.

Ya, I should look into that. Would be nice to have beef in excess instead of once in a while.

I find it amazing just how much people have lost even the most basic skills. I heard a young man in the break room at work telling others how he couldn't figure out how to change a flat tire and he almost sounded proud of it. I helped an older lady change a flat in front of a restaurant where we were going into eat in about 5 minutes. This used to be a common skill.

I had a stuck caliper on my truck. The best quote I had was over $500 to fix it. I did it for the cost of the caliper and some brake fluid.

I'm not saying I'm some highly skilled person and I'm not saying this stuff to brag as my dad and grandpa could do much more then I can. These were basic skills when I was a kid. I'm just saying I can skin a buck and run a trot line. I can replace an alternator and do a little bit of welding, and solder, and replace a fuel pump or a wheel bearing. I can do basic electrical, carpentry and plumbing. I an tie a slip knot, I can hang a swing high in a tree without a ladder that will reach. I can pickle eggs, can food, grow a garden (mostly my wife on this one) I an plug a tire, I can set the valve clearance on a lawn mower engine. I can build a coop and put up a fence.

This was just a list of random stuff that I can recall doing recently that everybody could have done when I was a kid.

I'm not sure if it's just that we've lost respect for the wisdom of our elders or if the phones and internet have just lowered peoples IQ to room temperature.

I have related story that comes to mind.
I was replacing a fuel pump on an old 6.2 diesel. The fuel pump used to be higher up on the old 350s and you could change it in in about 10 minutes. I did it once in the parking lot at work. However, the genius engineers move this fuel pump down to where it was near the frame on the 6.2. It was a tricky job where you had to use a bent hacksaw blade to hold the pushrod in while you put the pump back on. I wasn't able do get the thing lined up properly so I asked one of my buddies to try and he couldn't either. His grandpa was visiting and he said he'd ask him to take a look. His grandpa looked at it for less then a minute and said. "You're gong to have to jack the engine up" That was it. What we didn't realize was that the motor mount was worn and that it was allowing the motor to sag just enough that we couldn't get the full pump to line up properly.

Guess I should stop. The current generation will probably TLDR this one lolz.

YA I get it.

As for people losing basic skills,..attitude,.. it pretty much refers back to who raised them or how they grew up. If you're talking about the younger,.... it's the fault of our generation. Less trouble if ya just leave em on a computer all day,... less trouble and less skilled in RL.

Personally I have a lot load of skills, done a lot of different stuff. I just did live sound because it paid the most. That ain't my real world. Anything in the forest, computers, programming, to running over head cranes in mills to wielding, forklift, mechanics, truck driving, carpentry, custom doors,  electricity, pluming,.. I could build an entire house. Today many have 1-2 skills, the 3rd is watching sports on TV....lol

a life time ago I had a 72 Chrysler former squad car with 440,...I had to break a motor mount and lift the motor to change a rear spark plug every time I tuned it up.

Aye, I'm trying to raise my kids with skills but all they want is the dang screens. I have a tab open on my computer so I can log into the router and release the internet connection just in case lolz.

I agree that GenX has a bunch of responsibility for the current generation. We pretty much raised ourselves and I guess a bunch of them decided that because of the way we were raised that their kids should have a silver spoon shoved up their butt.

That's good stuff to have those skills. I'm still always trying to learn new stuff and I'm creeping up on 60.

No joke, I've been saying for years that now that it's possible to produce animal parts through cloning, we should be perfecting how do clone the choice cuts of meat. I bet once you get the physical process and economy of scale down, you can probably get some good meat at very cheap prices.

In my opinion it's the chicken. A chicken is an existing life form but an egg is not. If the egg doesn't have the right environment it will develop into a life form whereas the chicken is already a life form.

I have the exact opposite opinion. Evolution occurs because of genetic mutation in a creatures offspring. Therefore the first true chicken egg was laid by an almost chicken.

Well, that could be correct, since birds are somewhat presumed to be related to reptiles, which were here before birds. Pterosaurs are winged reptiles. Most reptiles lay eggs.
