How often does that file change?

It's a fresh install file. Only have to deal with it when you install the game. Which makes it a problem

It's not the server or it's connection as I have shown. Being slow I mean. As I mentioned, it is likely Frontier throttling outside connections to their network. Maybe just to this particular site. Do some testing, correlate the data among users, provide the evidence to hitech and maybe he can get Frontier to work the issue. Or don't. I've helped all I'm willing.

Your first response was it was on our end/problem. We just clarified that.

Indeed. It is on your end.

It's not the server. Not the server's immediate connection to the Internet. It's not on my end. I told you what it was. Do nothing except complain here and see if it changes.

DUDE!. I'm not the only one who pointed out the flaw in you saying it's on our end. "Your end" implies it's our computer and connection. We all proved it's NOT......trunks between are not our end, you simply changed your wording after the fact. You are appearing to have the knowledge of a typical gamer....not an IT specialist, because they just showed you up. Every convo with you is some weird twilight zone merry go round with words.

Go get a check up

You never have a thought of your own animl. Go away.

Go start some more threads complaining about the game and threatening quit. You do that more than anyone else here.

I could think circles around you spinning on one ear. Don't ever lecture me on being out of place, You're out of place, this IS my place, until I deem it's not..
Why don't you go swindle people into buying unsupported planes in another game board. You do not have a fan club here. I may not either, but at least I contribute to something you walked away from a long time ago. At lleast I'm about improvement over ripping it down as an outsider.

All your proof showed was it wasn't on YOUR end, it wasn't your connection. Had you done a simple tracert, you would have had a better answer. Had I known the IP I would have put that tracert in my first reply.

You're like an ex-GF who won't go away. Always waiting for something to prance on and suggest we are stupid AH infidels and you're superior because of pretty planes. Backseat driver. Your former player tribe lives in their own head.

That said, the vultures hit my thread exactly as predicted, baseless lies and insults. Nothing new from YOUR tribe of former players. PC warriors who hide behind oak tree 200 yrds away and when someone turns on you you run screaming for mommy playing victims.  The post wasn't even about the person who layed his own head on the chopping block and lied of it's context as if I were talking about him. But he did lie to make me look bad, and that deserves what I decide.

How often does that file change?

I haven't noticed it change that often.  When it does, it can create havoc for events, though, as folks show up to a scenario expecting to pop into the arena, and it starts downloading something that takes a long time.

Mostly, it's a hassle when installing fresh for a new player.

I don't recall it redownloading ever.

Speaking about events, I can tell for sure that many players I know have removed AH from their computers and redownload it for the event. But they don't necessarily do a test run. As my test shows at least my computer required a reboot after reinstalling the game. And that's something people don't seem to do too often these days.

I dont know for sure, but thinking logically the stdshapes file is all the standard shapes for the game. This would include all of the plane shapes, the vehicles shapes, boat/ship shapes, building shapes, maybe some of the terrain shapes as well. Anything and everything that the game adds a skin to before displaying it in the game. That is why it is such a large file. It is also a "one and done" file unless HTC adds or edits shapes, then we would all be downloading a new file.

My stdshapes file is dated 2020 for the date it was "last modified" Did we get a change then or did I do a fresh DL then, dont know. I do know some folks have a very hard time getting this file downloaded, and then installed and has been the cause of a number of posts in the Help Threads. Maybe its due to throttling by some providers, maybe its due to some people having a crap modem thats on its way out, I dont know. I think an easy fix would be to add a text box for the down load sayin "it could take an hour to download this file due to many factors. Please be patient" add with it a timed scrolling bar. If people "see" the bar growing they will "know" its working and may be a bit more patient. A bigger fix might be to break down the file into 6-8 smaller files which as they download would "look" like things are working.

That'd be great, Fugi.

My neighbor, a college buddy in Pocatello, Idaho and a nephew had issues getting this file. I did a fresh reinstall about a month ago and it took forever for me as well.
Maybe the file can be hosted somewhere else and folks could access it there? I remember putting it in a shareable folder in a dropbox account I share for a couple of folks here a while back but I don't remember if they ended up using it. It's here if anyone needs it or knows anyone who could use it:

https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/n77ehzrf4vqj06otwo0vw/AO0Ws-umpYdotxl2a0F0EM4?rlkey=e7h8vbe5r9zbzsj9wlhaa2bu0&st=orj92ao8&dl=1

This file along with the front page, the storefront if you will, sure seem detrimental in the promotion of the game and frankly, make it look like it went nipples up a couple years ago. Maybe the link above could be put on a reasonably updated front page along with instructions what to do with the file once downloaded? I don't know, just spitballing in hopes to show life support is still being given and there are still people in there enjoying the sim.

It it's taking prospective customers an hour to download the trial for this game, that is a big problem.

BTW, if you change the end of your link to "dl=1"  it should just start and auto download when clicked.
