Two questions.  What is the best herbicide to kill anything green and living?

Also,  what is the best weed and feed to use on a yard that is getting too much crabgrass and ground ivy?

Any other lawn and garden hacks?  The older I get, the more scrutiny I have on my property.

Depends. Are you wanting to kill weeds, grass, bushy/viney overgrowth? Broadleaf weeds?

Glyphosate will kill a lot but I had some stuff that it wouldnt touch. I had to buy a herbicide called Crossbow to kill it

Yeah i have a torch want I use in rock gardens, but looking for something that works well on brush and in mulch.

Plan B is to start over and put a better quality weed barrier down next spring or this fall.

By bigger issue I guess is my grass being overrun by not grass...

Any weed in a rock/much based garden is one issue.

Ivy/broadleaf weeds in the yard.  Definately looking for two different products as one is going to be too potent for my grass.

If you have something like  FS or farm spraying company by where you live, you could pull some up and take it in there and show it to them. They can tell you what you need to kill it and if you specify that you dont want to touch the lawn grass they may have something or can mix it up for you on the spot. It might be a little more expensive then jugs of roundup but if they know their stuff they can steer you in the right direction.

There is an app I use on the phone called plantsnap that will let you take a picture of the plant leaf and will identify the plant for you (may take several attempts to get a correct match, and the app has annoying ads trying to sell you to upgrade) Then type in the plant name online and what to kill it with and you should get some results on what herbicide to use.

2-4-D is a broadleaf herbicide that shouldnt affect most lawn grass

My viney plant is called winter creeper, thats the stuff that no other herbicide would touch until I bought the crossbow herbicide. That stuff finally killed it

Yeah, Round-up Ground Clear will nuke an area. 


On the lawn I have started using Scotts triple action tuff builder (with preventer not the one with ant poison).  It has 3 components:
1.  Selective post-emergent herbicide that kills most weeds but not the grass.
2.  A Pre-emergent agent to prevent any other weed seeds in the soil from germinating for the next 3 months or so.
3.  A balanced fertilizer.

NOTE:  I get the one for southern lawns.  I think there is a north lawn.  Check for grass type.

Spread that March 1 and Oct 1 and 85% of my problems vanished.  And I was over run with dandelions. 

In between touch ups I use Spectracide Weed Stop which I can also recommend.

Shrug.  Try it a season.

Most who have problems aren't following the instruction.

Grass needs to be good and wet when you are applying it so the stuff will stick to the weed surface.  If the dew isn't heavy then mist down you lawn with a hose sprayer before spreading.  When I do it that way I do a section at a time so I can get it spread before it dries off then move to another section.

Make sure you get the right one for your grass.  Won't kill Johnson grass weed, but few things you can buy OTC will.  I had a yard full of dandilions other clovers and nasties and After two or three application they were gone.  Very rarely get one.

Between fungicide, insecticide and herbicides..throw in monthly watering charges and it costs a small fortune..for what?
