microphone issues
« on: May 20, 2025, 08:29:26 PM »
Using a lapel mic attached to my joystick - the same setup as when I last played - but no sound comes out.  I tried another mic and got the same result.  Any ideas?

Does the microphone work with other programs? Like Camera or Sound Recorder? Or in Windows Settings?

I checked this box to verify it works.  Mic level is at 100%.

You have a speaker icon in your sys tray. Right click it then open volume mixer. Is the mic or mic input port connected shown as the input device?

Did you check these two in-game areas related to sound?

It does not show a microphone.

No other option pops out on the microphone bar?

Seems to be getting above my area of knowledge...  hope you get it fixed, but vox is over-rated, anyway.  :noid

True.  My voice sounds much better in a printed format.

Windows 7? Report to the Carrousel for renewal.   ;)

I'm wonder if the input jack (pink) from the sound card pic should be showing something plugged in there.

I tried using the motherboard sound and the game kept crashing when I keyed the mic.

Not sure the sound card is defective, because the mic did pick up sound when i tested it (see reply#2) but can't play the game with the mic on send continuously.

It's weird, for sure.  I ordered a USB mic to see if that works.

Only if Jenny comes with me.  :D

The whole thing is really weird, because AH saved all my settings from six years ago and I haven't played any other PC games or made any changes, outside of a monitor.  :headscratch:

Thank you all for the help, btw. <S>

Is the onboard sound disabled in bios?
It should be if you have a sound card too, especially with Sound Blaster. SB has conflicts with second sound devices, many cards do. Never have both enabled at same time.

Never had win7. Try using the Sound Devices not mixer. You may find this in Control Panel. If you find it make sure its enabled for Recording.

Make sure there is no other mic listed in AH, if so disable the unused in Windows.

Are your drivers up to date?
Just side question; using DX9 or DX11?

Is this a new mic with 1/8” or 35mm connector. Industry changed this standard. If its new it prolly 35mm. They say they are exactly the same, they are not. The tip is different in 35mm. If its 35mm you may need an adapter for a 1/8” input. I’ve had to do this with audio input devices like Direct Input boxes, and other older components.

My old $400 comm headset with 1/8” connectors will not work in my new machine due to 35mm input.
