computer freeze
« on: June 03, 2025, 08:23:07 PM »
In game when cursor freezes, clipboard wont move or close, cant bring radio up, but map is still updating, can see text scrolling.  Alt f4 wont work, alt control delete wont bring up task manager, only way to get out is to press power button down & hold. this has happened 3 times.

Any ideas or help appreciated.

Check if your computer is running hot while playing the game.

Sounds indeed like a heat issue.

As many of you know, my pet peeve is to shutdown the computer with assistance of the Shift button, or Restarting instead of Shutdown to reset any glitches in the OS. But pressing and holding the power button for the sufficient amount of seconds basically does the same so this doesn't seem to be a Windows issue.

There's several places to check:
  • The CPU heatsink, or
  • the water pump - is one of the hoses hot and the other cold for the entire length
  • The GPU
  • The Power Supply Unit
  • All filters on the case, usually in the front and bottom
  • Checking that the bottom mounted PSU isn't clogged by thick carpet
  • Ensuring proper airflow all around the case
Water cooling is efficient but the pumps don't seem to last too long. And unlike propeller driven air cooling there's no visual indicator telling about failure, checking temperature is the only way.

  <S> Kenai77

I have cleaned the case, replaced video card, I was thinking maybe it was an issue with the ram.

It happened again - screen freeze, cursor wont move, alt-ctrl-delete work, alt-f4 wont work, but text still scrolls and I can hear local vox, this only happens in this game.  Have to pull power to puter to get out.

Some of you smarter than me must have some idea.

It almost sounds like a keyboard/mouse input issue. Reseating the plugs when you pulled the computer to swap out the ram set you strait for a bit, maybe it has loosened up. Do you have some functions mapped to your stick? I have a button mapped to open and close the clipboard. Map one and see if it works when the other things lock up. Check to see if you have the keyboard /mouse inputs USB set to "sleep" after a time. They should be set to always on.

Run a Dxdiag and post the top third of the report here so we can see what you have running for a computer and see if there are conflicts anywhere.

If it only happens in this game, and your memory was bad previously, it may have corrupted something in the game. If it was me I would start by reinstalled the game. It's fixed the problem 90% of the time.

No, do not remove the old game, just download a fresh version and install it over the old one.

This how to do the Dxdiag
