Who knew?
« on: June 05, 2025, 01:59:50 AM »
Besides Poot and Capera (of course).

So a Dora basically has to get really lucky to catch 32+K empty B-17s?   I’ve thought I’ve watched/read enough late Luftwaffe materials etc. that would put it more like 36+K - 40K

Maybe my stik has drag I’m unaware of? If so it would explain a couple other things.

Discuss.

Ignore it. Muting is pure bliss.

Ironic how folks are preaching how toxicity is ruining the community in all the while spewing it every chance they log on.

I can catch them with a 110-g but only after firing off the rockets but it’s easy with about half the fighter planeset.

Nothing to discuss other than something happening on your end creating drag or issue with throttle (or you got a very late start on trying to catch it.)    Film?

The smart bombers will nose down a bit and maintain distance very well.

Engine management (beyond controlling fuel consumption) is not required or encouraged in this game.

Anyone with round engine exposure would confirm that running Wright 1820's (or any other 1930s/40s) engine at 100% power for hours would likely result in unexpected engine problems.

For those that desire realism in the sims they enter, maybe HT could have added engine management to avoid unplanned failures.

Failing that we live with B17's cruising at 280mph TAS as opposed to the more realistic 180-200 mph.

Dont bother with those rockets, they are extremely rare to hit and cause high amount of drag even after firing them.  I wish HT would reduce the empty drag to make them atleast worth taking for the attempt.

I've had good enough success that I may fly an entire tour only using rockets............after shooting a single short burst of bullets.

Curious what that would do with the score.

Check your rudder. Could be barely twisting or pushing it while you fly. If in auto pilot, it should perform to specs.

Something about AH3 certainly makes catching bombers seem much harder than AH2, and it also feels the same with E for me. I'll think I can easily rope a plane yet, they just keep climbing 😆

I’m now quite suspect of the stik. Lots of times the same plane can catch me from a fight where I disengage and have quite a head start.

I’ve used a fair amount of Dead Band because the twisty is so loose that just minor twist show quite a bit of movement on the Raw Scale.

Engine management (beyond controlling fuel consumption) is not required or encouraged in this game.

Hitech once commented that adding engine management would make the game much more difficult to learn, and discourage players.  Right now I can switch from a P-51D to a 190D, and I can fly right away. I have to learn the different flight characteristics of the new plane, but I can still fly it.  If we included engine management in that switch, there would be a huge learning curve every time I wanted to try a different airplane.

This way we get the fun of flying the airplane, without all the overhead.

Kinda like learning to fly.... hence i decline to call this game a Sim.

AH is more about understanding the fight, SA, understanding plane performance vs others, and learning ACM. It also has a great war strategy theme. Other 'flight sims' or 'flight games' just don't provide that as well as AH. Engine management really isn't that much harder anyway once you get the hang of it. For new sticks, learning ACM and SA is so much more beneficial. This game is great for the younger air combat enthusiasts and tanking large map big battle PVP strategy, but the sub really prevents so many younger kids from being able to really get into it and there are no "team death match" custom arenas to attract free server players and kids who want to learn the game before jumping into the MA.
