Guys,

How high (or far away) must a plane be to not be visible to another plane?

I noticed if I am in orbit in my territory, planes far below me dont seem to be able to see me until I get lower in alt.

I have no knowledge of how to model flight visibility. But in this arena it is quite short. Airports only come into view at roughly 4-5 miles. Airplane dots I am guessing are 5-6 miles and icons obviously 3.5 miles.

A lot depends on your resolution settings. Higher res can see pretty far. VR maybe further. The icon clucks in at 6k. Label Icon or not I can see things very far away at 2560x1440 on 32” monitor . At 1080 not as far.

Its all distance from you.

8k is dots. 8k from you planes show as a dot, vertical or horizontal.

6k is icon and map icons. On the map you will see planes that are 6k away from you or anybody on the map showing as a plane or bomber icon. Vis you will see the plane basic plane ID "LA" with a - for closing and a + for moving away

2k I think is when you get the more detailed ID "LA5" or "LA7"

Close, its 800 yards when you can see the full plane type.

Also, remember that distance is measured in yards, altitude is measured in feet.  So if you are at sea level, a plane flying directly overhead at 12,000 feet would have an icon showing a distance of 4K, or 4,000 yards.  If the plane is not directly overhead, but at an angle , the distance would be farther.
