FYI: Early/Midwar player arena over this weekend
« on: June 20, 2025, 10:57:59 AM »
Just an FYI if anybody is interested.

I'm thinking about setting up a early/midwar arena over this weekend for fun. It would be a very small map with 1 base for each country.

Just knock it off already.

Barley have 90 people for a hour or two at night as it is now.

Back in 2022 after a loooooong break from 2010. Old name Ratpack, same for the BBS.

Squad I did the most tours with were the Excaliburs then The 172nd Rabid Dogs. Still trying to talk Illigaf, Coola, Oldman22, and Joecrow into coming back instead of being boring old farts!

I'll stop in if I see others...

Thanks for trying to add variety to the game <S>

Maybe you missed it but there was a big discussion about an early/midwar arena. I thought it might be nice to have the option. I"m pretty sure there will only be a couple people that would actually play as it seems there are many who can't play without a 5 eny rocket plane :)

Cool. I'm not sure how long it will stay up cause for some reason when I walk away and come back it looses connection.

I don’t usually miss days that end in Y.

I have no idea what's the chip on your shoulder or what you even mean by that.

I've had it up for a few hours and have been flying around goofing around. I find it interesting after so much time in IL2 and WT sim battles that I forgot how forgiving the flight model is here. I keep checking the temp gauge too lol. I wish some of those other sims had the autopilot for sure. Makes taking a bathroom break much safer.

It's also interesting that there was so much discussion about early/mind war plane sets that nobody showed up unless I was afk and missed them. Oh well. I gave it a shot. I'll leave it up for a bit just in case and maybe try again tomorrow.

I logged in there a few minutes ago, before I had to go do something else.  It's a fine recreation of the old dueling arena, except there's a volcano in between the three bases.  Hazmatt was afk at the moment, but it looks like fun.  Suggest others give it a try when they get a moment.

Thanks for dropping by Oldman. I ended up falling asleep early last night and when I woke up it had lost connection as usual.

I saw Trogdor had logged in to the arena and mentioned somebody else had setup a furball lake with the old dueling arena map. Seems kinda odd that nobody was setting anything up until I mentioned setting one up. Anyways, it's not my plan to compete so I'll just be setting mine up if I'm online and taking it down when I log so this won't be an ongoing thing as I had originally planned. Hopefully whoever set up the other arena won't only set it up when mine is up so that there is an ongoing option for those who like the early/midwar plane sets.

Consistency is key. So yeah if you can leave it up and then have it up most days/weekends for a whlle, im sure it will eventually pick up, however the "connection lost" will be a major issue if that can't be resolved as losing connection with people in there will scare them away.

Connection lost may be due to inactivity.
Pretty there is a time-out setting in the game. If I walk away to do something and forget I left  AH running I would lose connection.

Players gravitate towards where the numbers are. Unless there is an advertised event, where they know numbers will be that would be the MA. Why those arenas are empty in the first place.

Most of those who complain are usually doing nothing. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

As I understand it, the custom arenas stay up as long as there is someone actively in the arena.

Here’s an idea.
Let non-players know it’s available to get a taste of the game. As I remember it is a free arena. Capitalize on that. Numbers breed numbers.

I don't think there is any timer on a connection to HTC.  I've left the game open over night and came back to the same login from the previous evening.
