Be ready!
« on: June 23, 2025, 11:24:22 PM »
Today I had a bodacious wipe out on (on then off) my mountain bike trying to avoid a horse standing in the middle of my single track of all things. The rider was off her steed picking wild flowers and left the horse standing there. I avoided the horse but not a tree and rock garden. I'm pretty sure I took out my ACL again-pending imaging and whatnot but I am certain I've got time to burn playing AH here in a few days going forward for bit. I thought retirement at 58 would be a breeze. So far, it's been no bueno with family deaths and injuries smashing the scene. Things can only get better though!

I'm no longer the mediocre-to-terrible pilot I once was, I'm worse. But if I can survive the initial head-on, I can sometimes put up a decent fight.....that might be a stretch initially, but give me some time. It's my right leg that is currently immobilized so let me have the left after the merge to shoot you down as my right will be a bit tender on the rudders.

I limit myself to 5K for alt and I only fly planes I feel sorry for like the 109F, FM2, SpitI, SpitV, P39, P40, Brewster and P38's so make considerations and concessions before engaging me!

I kid about that of course, bring it! No better way to learn than going through the grinder repeatedly. Look for me at 5K, slow and discombobulated and maybe under the influence of Vicodin, aka Lorcet or Lortab and maybe a snifter of ETOH on the side-use it against me!

Not sure what my CPID will be, depends on what's available. Nephew and Leisure have their own PC's now so I have my windows PC in the shop all to myself.....they both still steal wireless and bandwidth....losers! shoot them down on sight.....I don't know their ID's however.

Look for Xanax or Awful as far as I go.I'll announce my ID if both those are not available.

My knee feels good right now and I might be a tad "influenced" by hydrocodone but I meant what I said, bring it!
This'll be fun!

The great thing is most of the pilots in here are terrible, so flying at low alt just gets you lots of kills if you know how to reverse.  Unfortunately there is usually one that comes along and knows about throttle management and ends the fun.

I know the concept and used to utilize a decent reversal but need some practice and lots of it. Bring it! I saw you a few times as Skyline (after the amazing Nissan?) wipe my neighbor Leisure a few times in a Zero. You were defending a base take in said Zero and you blew him up. I laughed despite knowing I'd have met the same fate.

Bring it! Dyin' is learning in a video game.

Prob would have been better off hitting the horse instead of the tree and the rock garden. Just sayin.

Hope you're feeling better soon!

Thanks!

True. I barely clipped the tree with my left handlebar end but enough to send me into the rocks-I just couldn't clear 'em. Never even got disengaged from my clipless. It was kind of a blur as I was having a good, fast descent after a long climb up that same trail. She wasn't anywhere on the trail while I climbed up earlier. I rang my bell approaching the corner but a horse doesn't know what that means.....unless it's Mr. Ed. I even was able to dust myself off and pedal away but the familiar sensations of a torn ACL were there. I hope I'm wrong but this swelling and feeling says no. MRI will tell. This will be the 3rd one....football, skiing and now mountain biking.
I gotta add that the girl riding the horse was quite nice and apologetic about not having the horse off the trail. A nice person and no ill will coming from this guy. Stuff happens, go on.

If I'd been younger, I think I could have cleared the rock garden. Alas, I'm old. Might have to switch to road riding permanently as I'm a bit too aggressive and have my age goggles turned up to 11 while out in the dirt. The days of the old dude with the silver beard going uphill on his single speed might be over. I enjoy going up hill more than down but all my stuff and life is down hill from there. Someone donate a helicopter to me!

I am one of those "bait" pilots, so far I have been unable to learn how to fly a fighter. I would LOVE to see some good/not so good AH3 ACM films. How do  you do a reversal? How far do  you extend? I am sure there are hundreds to chose from, would be nice to have a list of those videos. There my whine is done, oh one other thing, audio of what and why you are doing what  you do would help also. :devil

I have like 20+ films that agent360 did flying his 109. I have a half dozen on the "Help Page" where he narrates the what/why of the film.

Damn Xan! That sounds pretty wild. Sucks it injured you so hard. People these days..most can't even get out of their own way.

Im not sure flying if the slow turners will help your knee if you use rudder pedals, I guess it will help to move it. Down low n slow turning constantly can be intense with the rudder.

Those planes certainly make the game harder and more challenging. Flying a P40 for a tour, I had some great fights, but even my arm was getting a work out constantly defending in the reversals. Some how my saitek peddles still work. Hey, being an "easy" target does make it seem like there are more fights as they all try to engage you for the "easy" kill  :rofl its a fantastic way to learn the art of defense and art of the overshoot. Though I always recommend coming into the match play with me so I can show you a few techniques that will greatly help you in the overshoot, and most importantly, avoid the HO. The match play spawn is a perfect place to practice avoiding the HO. There are some key concepts to avoiding the HO and gaining the advantage from it.

In any case, hope to see you out there. Don't get discouraged in the harder slower planes, they do take a bit more patience and work, but make the game so much more entertaining for everyone IMO.

Here you go JimmyD. Here is a sortie in the P40 where I show how I attack bombers. How I use SA in the fight. How I engage planes, and a great reversal on a spit near the end that im able to suck in and counter punch. I use a lot of these techniques in almost every sortie.  :salute

That reversal on the spit was perfect. I think I would have missed the crossing shot as my gunnery seems to get worse by the year. I was thinking to myself when watching the spit: he's gonna die doing that flat turn. In my experience guys that flat turn tend to die fast cause you can usually pull straight up into the vertical and usually with a bit of flaps and Gods g get inside their turning circle for long enough to take a shot.

Another one that works well for me if I'm getting B&Zed is: I will start turning slightly nose down in an ever tightening turn and right when they get to around 800 I will roll the plane a little bit out of my current plane and go to max g. (I try to time this to about the time where I think they've pulled lead for a shot) As they close to around 300 and they realize they aren't going to be able to make the shot and straighten out, I roll 180 and pull back in behind them as the go zipping buy. I usually get a shot that way but it's kinda like a lead turn shot cause they are usually going away fast.

Thanks, I'm hoping to get a good base defense film tutorial when I can get the time.

Thinking about it. Man, Xanax and ZE teaming up in Brewsters could be quite scary  :old:
