The grown adult men that bicker back and forth hatefully like old unhappy women as if it really matters and that their arguments will change anything..besides making them sound like spoiled rotten 12 year olds..or mentally disturbed adults..take your pick  :old:

It's amazing a bunch of enthusiasts can keep that moving so far forward for so long.

Weird.  I was just thinking about Falcon the other day. And IL2 1946.  They have added like a hundred planes or something insane since the company abandoned the game.  Overhauled sound system, all kinds of amazing hacks.  Not the best way to have to develop software, but they have a dedicated base willing to make that level of effort.

Why could they get so much done on completely dead and abandoned games and AH can't even get a terrain rotation list modified?

In Falcon's case, the company was defunct and someone leaked the source out.  Rabid dedicated players grabbed it and ran with it out of passion.

In 1946 case, the company was still there, but no longer going to expand or support 1946 and so when it was cracked and the base started making additions and improvements they just shrugged it off and didn't officially support that effort, but took a neutral stance and made no attempt to stop them.  Why not.  There fact that there is still a faint pulse in 1946 just gets them continued residual sales.   There are still people who go out and buy a $4.99 copy of 1946 not for the base game, but because of the universe of player mods.

So 1C continues to earn sales off a game only because they allow the base to hack it and add content they won't.  Clever.

AH is stuck in an awkward middle ground.

The company is not defunct and the source is not released.  There is no further development, but a legal entity still owns the code so everyone else is locked out of making changes either without violating the license.

So all you can do is skins and terrains.  Both quite well done, but that is the limit.  Oh, I guess someone could fiddle with sounds.

Unfortunately this is somewhat true and sad. 1946 with the BAT mod is pretty darn sweet. It’s everything the single player AH hoped to be and more.

Imagine what some our dedicated genius crowd could do with the code. Especially with AI.

Back in 2022 after a loooooong break from 2010. Old name Ratpack, same for the BBS.

Squad I did the most tours with were the Excaliburs then The 172nd Rabid Dogs. Still trying to talk Illigaf, Coola, Oldman22, and Joecrow into coming back instead of being boring old farts!

BTW, GOG has the Falcon series for $9.99. It says it includes Falcon 4 in the fine print at the bottom. I can't confirm that but some say it does.

Just finished installing. Wow! Whole 'nother game.

The original Falcon 4 does have to be installed and run once. I installed and ran but it wouldn't actually start. No problem though, BMS still installed and runs.

Another example is Dover Blitz.

Those guys went from tolerated player-hackers to business partners and collaborative dev studio.

For a man that always complains there's too much drama, then says he's going to avoid all drama, you sure do love trying to provoke drama around here. :old:

If you acknowledge his existence, he is just trying to get the thread closed.

He craves attention more than food, water, or air.  Deny him.  Just ghost him.

Control mappings are pretty straightforward though I've done none but axes so far. I like how it shows you the relative direction of the axis. Many of my Virpil controls, but not all, need to be inverted.
