TO Better Help New Players
« on: June 29, 2025, 07:38:48 PM »
New players coming into the game have no true help.  They have to ask existing players and many might be hesitant to do so.

The best approach right now would be a new section on the HTC homepage marked How To Videos.  Current players can create content that is specific and on point.  Each video uploaded to YouTube.

Hitech could add a section here in the BB forum for player submissions.  He then can choose the best video for that topic.  He then can organize the webpage into How To Categories and add the hyperlink to the chosen video.

Examples

How To:

Download the game
Start the game
Enter an arena
Use the Hangar
Set up vox
Set up text
Set views
Set convergence

Launch flight
Use clapboard
Basic flight maneuvers

ACM videos

Bombing videos

GV videos

There is the potential for over a hundred plus videos to teach new players the intricacies of the game.  Collaboration between HiTech and the player base will help attract new players and bring back former players.

My 2 pennies.

The default game also loads up videos that play ingame. When you sign in a swing out panel opens with the video queued up. Most people turn them off right away.

Aces High has a YouTube page as well  https://www.youtube.com/@aceshigh
with a "Help and Support videos too https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLr4GpS0ovt8q7dxp0byt74q9GT6CN6OMO

Getting more people to promote these and the newer group of videos is what is needed.

Do you mean players becoming social influencers?

Where do I find where it says how much ords to take down the hangers, bunkers, and ships? Does Hangers still take 3000lbs. How many rockets to take out dar? Is it 10,000 lbs for CV still? Been awhile I forget.  :headscratch:

This gives you the pounds of ord (hardness) needed to take down targets.  .310 = 310lbs (dar/barracks), 2.78 = 2,780lbs (hangars for example)

I'm not aware of any ord damage list, but bombs do their poundage (not sure how splash is factored), while us 8" rockets do about 125lbs each.

It takes 250 rounds of .50 cal to take out a building, 500 for dar/barracks.    Ammo bunkers have been recently hardened from 310lbs to 840lbs, so they may take about 1200 .50 cal to take out.

It takes about 150 20mm to take out dar, not sure how many 30mm it would take.

Bombs do less damage per pound the larger they get:

Steam: DrKalv
E:D Snailman

I know we all get focused in the game, but looking for new players in game and offering help is a great way to promote a new player's longevity in the game.  Get in range of them and talk on range vox or text and take a little time to give them a quick step up.  That's been my approach when the opportunity arises.  This is a good discussion and wouldn't it be great if everyone took this stand, instead of giving the new players a beat down for the sake of an irrelevant score or rank.  My 2 cents.

This is good stuff.

The problem seems to be new players are like unicorns. I haven't played in over a year but in the many many years I was there previous I think I can count on one hand the amount of new players that hung around.

I think the issue is attracting new player if this game is going to survive.
