I assume you understand the economic argument on why sales tax is regressive?

I assume all tax is regressive since it takes money out of people's pockets. Meanwhile they'll tell you its your companies fault for not paying you enough. But you can control how much sales tax you spend, you cannot control how much income tax gets taken out.

You control it as much you can by fully understanding policies and how you vote. Party line voting is stupid.

The water you drink is a product of taxes, it also provides those jobs. I worked for my home town a cpl yrs decades ago. That’s how I was paid, keeping homes weather proofed and large parks beautiful.

Things are about to get worse in a cpl months,  more so 2026-27. You are nit getting a tax cut, you’ll just pay the same, but prices are about to jolt. Tax cuts the rich on your back, is disgusting. Trickle down has not ever once worked, not once. There is no cure for greed. Vote on details.

You’re not mad, yet.

Ya just can’t vote fir a pretty one-line talking point, ir conspiracies, details details details.

Then I don't think you understand what the  term means.

Don't get me wrong.  I really want to help the working poor in America.  But you should always weigh what just sounds good vs what the actual effect would be.  Especially unintended consequences.

I used to be fans of flat tax and sales tax until I looked deeper into it.  You could make it work but it would require complex and aggressive exclusions to keep the tax burden from shift from the wealthy to the poor.

If I am raising a family and barely making it and not really paying income tax because of deduction, and you want to replace that with a 10% tax I can't exclude from and\or raise tax on food I already couldn't afford for my kids. When you are close to the edge 10% is the difference between scraping by and not making it.

If you are Paris Hilton 10% of billion won't be missed.  One day a week you might wipe your booty with $100 bills instead of $1000 dollar bills.

Same tax, different burdens.

Regressive.

So you'd need lots of exclusions and thresholds to avoid those things disproportionally pound those already just barely getting by.

Possible, but most people calling for those things don't want to have to admit the complexity.

You know someone is full of baloney if they start the conversation with,  "It's EASY!  All you got to do is...." or "The solution is simple..."  there are no simple solutions, only complex tradoffs.  If anyone doesn't realize that, they haven't thought about a problem deeply.   :aok

I understand the need to paying for things (roads, etc.).

But I don't like property tax being the way to do it.  You should be able to own your house, not rent it, I feel.

Agreed.
Your property tax pays for city works that connect to your home, water lines, sewage, the size of house and land should have zero to do with it.

We are the richest country because the people are way over taxed.

My preference is to vote purple, independent. No natter the color, if they suck, they still suck.

In Chicago area of IL, I know some with very average 2-3 bedroom homes paying $14,000 property taxes.

NWI, same home, $3k.

The mire people who leave IL the more they have to raise taxes to replace that revenue, the northern part if that state us ready to implode in that death cycle.

Our property taxes jumped up more then what they should have because of "increased property values due to the shortage of houses for sale". Housing market is already way over market value. If/when the correction ever occurs, do you think there will be a correction on property taxes? My magic 8 ball says no.

If you watch the video you'll see the money collected as property taxes are also going to non profits...some call it money laundering...

They need an extreme DOGE review under a fiscal microscope to say the least..

Our current home has devalued about $20K since we bought it two years ago. The tax assessor tried to increase the value over what we paid. Ownwell refuted that and won for us for a small fee. You can challenge the assessment yourself but it is a process. Well worth the small fee we paid ownwell.

Taxes and prices rarely go down once they know you adjusted to them.
Tax appraisals are different than bank/lenders appraisal.

My parents home bank appraisal was 180k, because down state raised taxes for no reason x3 tax appraisal was 250k. Home prices should have zero to do with raising taxes.

The bank will not lend above appraisal unless you will sign to make improvements to justy and raise the value. Anything over bank appraisal comes out of pocket.

They were selling my parents home for tax appraisal, which means if I were stupid enough to pay 250k for 180k home 70k had to come out of pocket. If it burns down you only get what the bank appraised unless you pay more to up the insurance coverage. Thats just bat crap crazy. So now insurance rates raise, one state by 26%.

In IN map, follow down to rt 231, south if that is rural and prices are much lower. Of course others figure that out and flee south from flight from IL ppl. Guess what, now those prices will ruse. The IL rich are moving there, buying farms , building mutli million $ homes and turning farm fields into a massive lawn front yard.

Thise housing market NEEDS to crash to correct it all.

Get worse? Tax cuts on business will create massive investment and more jobs than ever. You have no idea. America got wealthy and rich because we use to have some of the lowest taxes in the world and people could own their own property. Thats why so many immigrated here to start their own business and have the opportunity to become successful. Now we have so much bloat that we are basically being held hostage and we've created and allowed a weaker society because of it. Im pretty tired of the defeatist attitude by yall tbh. We use to love talking about the America and the opportunity to become rich. Now yall just want to rob from people who figured out how to be more successful than you so you can create more bloat and larger bureaucracy. That's gonna supposedly help but sldo create more poor lowlife humans we have to subsidize.

"Tax cuts for the rich" is a pretty one-line talking point.

I've pointed this out several times (thanks crazy Bernie), but I wonder if he knows what Sweden's corporate tax is, or that Sweden has no minimum wage?

I stopped after 3 sentences, that wish is called trickle down. It gas never once worked in YSA history, not ever, not once. Its bs, period.

Orange first term tax cuts for he rich they said sane exact thing. Instead they didn’t create jobs they used the money to buy stocks back.its a con to get money from your pocket to theirs snd happy about it.

So in this case you’re talking out if both sides of the mouth. Angry about taxes, yet happy to pay them fir s failed promise. Trickle down just kicks the football of pain down the road to be forgotten. Trickle down cannot work with the greedy

Its a con and you’re buying it.

I challenge anyone to prive trickle down has wirked WUTH DETAILS, not videos.
