I own several pocket size pistols. If you want the best of current crop, the S&W Bodyguard 2.0 is the best. Not the old double action Bodyguard, but the new 2.0 version.

Far and away, it is the smallest, lightest, best shooting .380 available. It set the new standard.
It comes with 10 round and 12 round magazines. There are inside the waistband holsters available and many pocket holsters work well.

It is smaller and thinner than the Glock G42 with twice the capacity.

Long story short, I Chitcago a kid was trying to pull his pocket gun on me, except it kept getting tangled in his pocket and he couldn’t get it out in time. Had I had my gun he’d be gone. I just stepped back into a building while he struggled, kinda laughing.

Pocket carry requires a pocket holster. It does several things. It keeps the trigger covered. It positions the gun in the correct orientation. It keeps things such as lint and debris out of the pistol's action.

Small pockets are not good. Small pocket entry is worse. Large, deep pockets are better. In other words. loose fitting jeans are much better than dress pants. With dress pants, a tuckable inside the waistband holster is far better if not wearing a jacket.

Here's some pocket rigs I use with small semiautos.



This is what I carry most often. Down here in Florida, I wear shorts 10 months out of the year. I made a custom pocket holster for it. This is a S&W 642 Air Weight 5 shot double action J-frame. It has received an action and trigger job. The factory grip was replaced with a Hogue grip. I load this with Underwood Xtreme Defender 100gr +P ammo. These generate nearly 1,100 fps muzzle velocity from the 1.87 inch barrel. Relatively low recoil, with exceptional terminal ballistics.



Accuracy is outstanding (for a snubby) at 10 yards. Note the cruciform holes in the target and the rounds on the speed strip. Those are the Underwood Xtreme Defenders. These are solid copper that use fluid transfer technology. In Government testing, the proved to do greater damage than conventional hollowpoints, with superior penetration of barriers.

I used to go to or through a lot the worst areas in Chicago, for work.
I make a point to not carry 90% of the time. It forces me to think how not to do or go, like down a dark ally, I would not normally do. Just because I have one, doesn’t mean I get first shot. In their territory, not mine, they already have upper hand.

The several situations I got in, I got out of without a gun, even though I wished I had it.

If I did have it, like during the above, I would have taken first shot, before I knew he couldn’t get it out. Now, I’m going through court cases I may not win.

I have a reflex.

I am certified with Chitcago PD for active shooter response. I just don’t need the aftermath.

If I think I need a gun to go somewhere, its probably best I don’t go. Problems avoided.

A violent encounter can happen anywhere. Transitional spaces, such as parking lots, gas stations, parks, etc, are places we go almost every day. I am armed every day, everywhere. I shoot live fire drills 3 or 4 times a month. We also have an abundance of potentially dangerous animals. Feral hogs, Coyotes and Gators. In the past 5 years, we were confronted two times by drug addled homeless in our adjacent nature park. In both instances, the sight of my firearm resulted in their hasty departure. Police later found and arrested one of them (2nd incident).

I always strive to avoid trouble, but should not be possible, I am prepared to do what is required to end a threat. Living in a free state, we don't have to deal with Government limiting our ability to defend ourselves. Indeed, our County Sheriff encourages carrying firearms. Resident's of Chicago have never heard their police speak like this....

Wildlife is different. I lived in WA, plenty of large animals, including mt lions and grizzlies. Then again, I grew up with guns and wildlife.

In Chitcago, only reason I went there was work. Most buildings/venues don’t allow guns.

I live in a weird area Chitcago 30 miles north west (almost shot) Gary 15 miles north east (did get shot at). Yet 15-20 miles south into farmland its polar opposite. Ya wave at each other goin down the road.

Southern states tend to be a bit fanatic and anxious to use them. I would absolutely carry in a southern state.  Southern states have the highest murder by gun stats.

If you zoom way out IL is in better shape then many states.

Not suggesting, I’ve very responsibly and maturely owned man guns. I’ve noticed when someone gets their first gun their nads and mouth expand them into trouble.

In-laws live 30 minutes outside a poor Florida town that has high crime in their non white neighborhoods..

The area around the In-laws have some of the lowest crime in the entire state..wanna make a guess why that is?

Hint seabee father In-law has two massive guns safes and just under 100 guns..and diversity is at its minimum..
