The vast majority of pizza in the U.S. would seriously piss off an Italian, Hell, most of the "Italian" food would. My aunt was a 1st generation Italian immigrant. She used to look at people and say "you eat that? you're not worth cooking for." She taught me to make pizza, lasagna, pasta sauces, etc. But she'd probably be annoyed to see what I add sometimes. My second wife claimed she hated lasagna. Now she asks when I'll make it, or "spaghetti".
I confess to being guilty of often putting a lot of toppings on pizza, but I usually get the real Italian style thin crust, and I don't put silly toejam on it.
My father was a 1st generation German immigrant. So I eat fairly authentic German and Italian dishes. I also have a significant amount of Cherokee heritage, alas, I have never pursued their culinary culture. Maybe later this year, when I got to the mountains, and the home village. But I'll be eating Creole/Cajun and southern food until then as well.
