« on: October 03, 2025, 12:34:45 PM »
We will be up at OAK Navarro Mills Lake Texas. Arriving the 16th and leaving on the 19th. Any of you old cow hands out that way? We will be camping with some friends from the north side of the Dallas area.

I rarely truly camp except to hunt now. I still have a tent. I need to replace some gear that was lost, stolen, or damaged. Not sure we'll ever get a small camper again, although I just bought an '06 2500 4x4 'burb with an 8.1, and it will pull one. Maybe one day.

I haven't tent camped in some time. Back in the day we did 5 day kayak trips on the rivers across Texas and camped as we went.
Years before that we tent camped as teens.

My wife is spoiled to having her own bathroom with shower. Along with a/c.

My current rig is 32 foot 5th wheel Cougar. I am this close to pulling the trigger on a new Cougar 326RLI Midnight Edition. My current rig has been great but is getting long in the tooth.

Don't you find something else screwing up when you use your 5th wheel Shuffler?

On the way to our 2019 forest river again now for about 2 weeks..I have the new screw cover trim replacement of about 100 feet waiting for me this time..

Like I said... the one I have is getting a little long in the tooth. Everything is working fine right now but as all RVs, it requires maintenance. The auto level works great. The unhitch level memory works great. All three powered slides work great.... just adjusted the cables on them. The powered canopy works great. The remote for all those powered items works great. Both a/cs are in good working order. I replaced the two recliners and the couch about two years a go. The couch has two recliners in it also. New it came with the upgraded suspension... which still works great.

The new RV I am about to get is 36 foot. It is a little heavier and loaded out with solar panels and cameras. It also has an automotive paint finish.

I do have a 3599 crew cab 8.1 Allison I could use to pull a bigger trailer, but I really feel like we'd be as happy with something smaller, easier to find a place for, and, towing with the 'burb means more room for passengers in more comfort. This close to retirement, I'm not sure I want to buy something huge and expensive.

Sounds like a blast at Navarro Mills Lake! Camping trip, eh? I haven't explored that neck of the woods lately! Be sure to check out the fishing; I hear the crappie fishing is great. Any tips for newbie campers hitting up that area? Safe travels from Dallas!

Issue with rv's these days is quality control..most things really but some yt descriptions of rv assemblers are crack heads with a staple gun...I  can believe it...

I have seen it first hand and yt is filled with stories of ppl paying huge money for these things only to have them in the dealership for warranty work as issues arise on their 1st attempt to use them..

Our oldest worked a short time at a Camping World...stories from that are scary and sad..

Ratings on the Cougar Midnight Edition are stellar. That is the inspector ratings.

Stay under 38 feet and you are OK. I set my limit at 36. You go over and you find less places to stay by far. The places that can handle larger rigs tend to only have 4 or 5 spots and they are usually taken.

We are all taking kayaks to explore. Fishing there was pretty good last time we went. We did not take our kayaks.... this time we are going to explore.
