P-51K-5-NT, 44-11726 (to RAF as Mustang IVa, KH818)
QV-F
Flight Lieutenant Joseph Davidson
12 Group, No. 19 Squadron, Royal Air Force
RAF Peterhead - Aberdeenshire, Scotland, May 1945

This is P-51K-5-NT, 44-11726, transferred via Lend-Lease to the Royal Air Force's No. 19 Squadron, 12 Group as Mustang IVa KH818.   Flown by Flight Lieutenant Joseph Davidson in May 1945.   Davidson was killed in a collision with Pilot Officer B.M. Natta's Mustang IVa KH674.

19 Squadron's Operational Record Book, F540, recounted the action thusly:

"A show came up in the morning for the PETERHEAD Section and again six of the Squadron with 235 Squadron took off at 13.15 to escort 48 Mosquitos to about the same area.   The weather was very bad going out especially over Denmark but it was clear over the target area.   They pranged an ‘E’ boat to the N.E. Coast of Denmark and then attacked a convoy of five ships further South in the Kattegat leaving them all smoking.   On the way out a small motor vessel was attacked just South of the first ‘E’ Boat.   The force then crossed out over Denmark.   During this crossing 234 lost an aircraft through flak, but he crash landed safely.   F/O. Schofield and F/L. Yearwood were both hit fairly badly by light flak, but luckily little serious damage was done.   The Section landed at 1815.   Just after the Mosquitos made their first attack a most unfortunate accident occurred when Tonic 3 and 4 (F/L. Davidson and P/O. Natta) collided and crashed into the sea and must be presumed killed as no sign of them was seen in the water.   The team was :-

Tonic Section
F/O. Schofield S/L. Hearne (C.O.) F/L. Davidson
F/T. Yearwood W/O. Wright P/O. Natta

On returning it was found Denmark and N. Germany was surrendering the next day."

This aircraft was skinned by request for the October 2025 Special Event Scenario.   Many thanks to Devil505 and Lyric1 for their help in researching the markings for this aircraft.   I have tweaked the markings slightly from how they appear in these screenshots, but they remain fairly representative of the final product.

I can barely keep a 51 in the air for 4 minutes but damn, I'd try better with a skin like that-especially with the bumble bee spinner.

Again, the provenance always seals the deal for me. Thanks for the hard work.
