I almost went with a VR setup but wasn't sure about how that would workout with me wearing eyeglasses now. I don't know if they'll fit over them. I use Trackir now and don't really like it in AcesHigh to tell the truth.

I don't know which HMD you have but a lot of them will have 3rd party lens insert vendors.

I got these for my Quest.

Wow! I'm going to look into that. How does the lighting in the room affect VR? The sun coming through the east windows of my home screw with the Trackir camera beam during daylight hours. Is this kind of thing an issue with VR?

As far as the 128GB of ram, I wanted to go 256GB but couldn't find any for a reasonable price. That stuff is crazy expensive imo.  :salute

It will handle DCS on the highest settings non VR. It will handle VR nicely too but some compromise may be necessary there depending on the headset.

What kind of upgrades would I need to play DCS maxed out you reckon? Any ideas? I probably won't invest any more money in this rig, but I would like to see what it would cost just for the heck of it.  :salute

I had a Vive that setting sun coming in the window would screw it up.  I guess because of IR.

My Quest doesn't seem to have that problem because I think it uses optical tracking not IR base stations.
You do need good lighting with contrasts in the environment so it can mark reference points.

So you'd want to check with someone who has your MHD model.

Brother has the same CPU you bought, fast SSD and 128GB memory also. He has an RTX 4090 and a PIMAX Crystal. He cannot max everything out but is very happy with the settings he can run.

He also has an HP Reverb G2 and will use that on his old machine for grandkids and guests. It stopped working when Microsoft dropped WMR. I thought we had it going again with the Oasis driver. All other VR games work but not DCS. He brought it over and we thought we had it going but we didn't test it enough. It will work as it does for other people so I just need to get him to bring it over again so we can test a fresh windows install.

So, the fastest you'll get is an RTX 5090. Even that probably won't be perfectly smooth in DCS with max settings on a PIMAX Crystal or higher.

I run a Ryzen 7 5800X3D, 64GB RAM, Gen 4 SSDs, and an RTX 3070. I run pretty much max settings non VR and am pleased with the performance. I've owned two VR headsets but decided just not for me.

Sounds awesome to me! I built one earlier this year. Once I got it together, I realized the motherboard isn't what I wanted (sigh). So now I'm contemplating a new motherboard.
