For AI to impress me, it would have to secretly give me the winning lotto numbers before the drawing.

Well I don't know about lotto because it is fundamentally random.

But ASI will certainly make every single encryption method we have from https, to your bank's security systems, to the safe-guards to our nuclear weapons, quaint and obsolete in a micro-second.

It may or may not be the end of us, but not pushing full ahead and letting our adversaries achieve it first would absolutely, positively, irredeemably be our destruction and subjugation.

We absolutely, positively have no logical choice but to be first and ASI harden our society before Sino-Russian ASI comes after us.

This is IT.  This one's for ALL the marbles, kids.

As long as everything is more convenient, it gives likes and friends not to mention the gov provided AI robotic live in assistance for all your needs and the masses will be fat and happy..

1st side that promises and delivers on that platform will rule unobstructed..

Eagler

Pretty much sums things up with regard to the mindless masses. Bread and circuses have been replaced by technology "assistance". Either way, it's taking large segments of society further away from accountability, self sufficiency/determination/reliance, and from having purpose and direction in life, in pursuit of things with meaning. There's nothing "greater" for them than ease of life, leisure, and pleasure.

Think about what it would mean if everything connected to the Internet, then and now, were no longer private. That's coming soon. This is not a dire prediction of doom. Simply an observation.

Not everyone is buying into the hype..

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/markets-plunging-worldwide-big-short-111554009.html

As I've said several times, the AI companies ARE in a bubble.  The technology isn't.  The technology is increasing in capability orders of magnitude faster than Moore's Law.  And will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

When the automobile was first introduced there were 2000 small car companies in the US trying to capture that new market share.  Most soon disappeared.
The automobile didn't go anywhere.

Same with the internet.  Thousands of DotCom companies popped up and soon cratered.
The internet didn't go anywhere.

I hope there is a brutal consolidation.  It will help refocus resources to the strongest contenders that are freed up from the elimination of the weak.

It's all about the monopolies and no competition.

Capitalism works by freeing up resources from weak contenders that can be better utilized by the contenders who are doing it better or more efficiently.

The economic term is Creative Destruction.

I'm glad I won't live to see how all this ends up. Humans are the most retarded animals on Earth.  200 years ago, men built their own shelter. Now, most men don't know which end of a hammer to use. Next, we'll have robots wiping out butts for us.

We'll have ASI by 2030.

:rofl I don't even know what that is. But from the sound out it, I won't like it.

It's unknown, but inevitable.

Everyone predicted immediate Armageddon when we developed the bomb.
We worked it out.

But the key to the bomb was that WE were the first ones to get it.  If our enemies had been first, this would be a totally different world.

I get people fear change.  Especially change they don't understand.

But there will be a lot of pain.  A lot of people will no longer be a able to do menial intellectual labor as a career.
Either get expert, or go work with your hands.
Middling services are no longer required.
