If AI gains sentience or self-determination will we ever even know?

Toxic, psychotic, self-aggrandizing drama queens simply aren't worth me spending my time on.

I don't have any fears of AI taking over the world.

I have fear of certain humans taking over the world using AI.

I fear AI being used how we would have used nukes in a quainter age.

I fear if others are first, we will be showing up to the battle with copper swords, and our enemies have bronze.  Or really, high-carbon steel and cannon.  The differential would be huge.

LoL.  Sorta.

Of course Sam Harris has the fear that game-theory might suggest to China and Russia that if the US is close to achieving ASI, then they might as well launch all their nukes before we instantly unencrypt them all and turn them off leaving them helpless.

Same in reverse.  I'd rather go to Planet of the Apes future than see China rule us with ASI.

I have no doubt there will be a vast a mount of pain and people will be very angry.

And it doesn't matter.

It's like complaining about old age.  If it is palliative than go for it.  It doesn't change anything.

I think your energy is better spent figuring out how to profit off it or at least not be destroyed by it.

People napping or thinking it isn't real will get steam-rolled.

When those lay-off scythes start swinging you know what the first-pass filter is?  Those who are up to date on 10x their productivity with the available AI tools and experienced with AI Agentic coding, go in one stack.  The old curmudgeons sitting in their cube grousing with each other about how AI is just a fad, go in the other.  Who do you think the company lets go?

Adapt or die.  Or retire. ;)

I was thinking this morning...I know dangerous.

Just as the military decided they needed their own space shuttle, I would be surprised, given the critical nature of the tech, if Cyber Command wasn't building a massive super AI installation somewhere with it's own mini-nuclear power plant.

No way are they going to rely on commercial AI.  No way they can afford not to be on the cutting edge.

They should name it WOPR.
