Mom used the threat of "telling your father".. especially if he was out of town for a week or two..

Looking back us four kids deserved 97.5% of the belt...getting it for dropping from a B to a C one semester might be considered overboard these days..but I didn't get a C the next 9 weeks lol..

I realize I might not have spank my two boys - now 40 and 47 - enough even though their friends thought I was the crazy strict dad..

In jr high and high school the dean of boys and the PE coach both kept us straight with a good paddling now and again...never got one I didn't earn/deserve ..

In England in 1971 when I was 12 in a Catholic School in the 6th grade around Tynemouth they would cane the palms of the kids in the auditorium during school assembly in front of everyone...I thought that was crazy as we didn't get that at St. Andrew's in New Orleans in grades 1 through 5..

I think removing the ability to spank a child did the children of today a disservice with removing an understanding of how the world really works..
