The joystick is giving me fits.. will be out for a bit
« on: March 23, 2000, 06:35:00 PM »
Well, I'm getting a horrible spike whenever I go full left or full right deflection and then move the joystick either up or down.  It results in a virtual joystick lockup for about 5 seconds.  This killed me 3 times today... of the 4 times I died.. 3 were without getting hit.

So.. I'll see what I can do to get it fixed.  Hope to see ya in the skies soon.

PS.  This also cause a stuttering fram effect when I rolled.

Had one other shot in the dark thing to try.
Rename you jsmap.cfg file to somthing else.

If this fixes the problem. Send me the old file.

Thanks for the tip HiTech.  It looks as if its my joystick or driver.  If I run its test utility... when I'm at full left or right deflection and move the stick in the y axis... I get an occasional spike.

I changed over to a different driver (one that allowed polling interupts to be disabled) and it decreased in frequency... but not in severity.  It almost seems to be tied into hard drive access.

Oh well... at least it didn't kill me till after I killed you

Well, I went out and bought a Sidewinder Precision Pro 3d.  The spiking is gone now.  Unfortunately this stick is NOTHING like my Wingman Extreme.  I hit the view button when firing cannons, the thing is hyper sensitive and its ugly as all get out

Now I have to learn to fly all over again.  At least its nice to get a good feel for recovering from complete departure in any aircraft I fly

BTW.. the Wingman Extreme lasted nearly 2 months

AK...I have had the same "original" MS FF stick since their beginning in 1997.  It has a noisy fan blowing over the processor, and it feels really great!  I can't imagine flying with anything else.  (only downside, I have only 4 views)
