I recommend that you get your keyboard fixed before you try the game.  It will not work as well with a stuck caps lock.

I've been playing it since the get-go. In my opinion it's a very good game run by a small dedicated crew, which is a plus in my opinion. They strive to model each planes flight characteristics correctly, and we recieve big new versions every couple of months. The learning curve is pretty tough as the pilots you will encounter are very skilled. There is an Instrucors Corps who can help you out with this.

Hope you enjoy your time here.

..and a word of advice, I'd turn off my caps lock, as using caps all the time is considered bad manners.

Have fun!

ww2ol?!? very different. This game is very concentrated on the Flight aspect and less so on the ground, however, there are ground vehicles available in AH. Don't get me started on that P.O.S. (ww2ol) those poor bastards were pressed to release (speculation). ww2ol is more focused on the ground combat of WWII. Thats as far as I'll go. I returned my copy for a refund   ;)

I haven't played WWII online, but from what I hear the planes flight characteristics are modeled better here and the game loads much faster. That's about all I can tell ya.

They can get rather large on some nights where an entire squad may be launching bomber strike missions, otherwise it's usually 1 or 2 here and there.

Play around with it offline to get the hang of it, the two weeks free starts as soon as you log on to the main arena (so don't until you're ready).

Un-edited in-game screenshots

Average FPS depends on the processor/video card/memory.

Fatty offers good advice. Get comfortable zooming around, killing a few drones and flying through a few hangers (and most of all, using the view keys). It will help a lot when you get into the Main Arena.

FPS with a 800 mhz P3 and geforce 1 DDR is so high I haven't bothered to check it yet.

Pentium II 200mhz
128 RAM
16 meg Creative Labs Graphics Blaster card

I got around 24 fps on this machine (ave).

Smoke areas, 12-15 fps
Heavy smoke 5-9 fps (this gets hard to play)

AMD 1.1gig
256 RAM
64meg GeForce II something or other

Ave 65 fps, no lower than 50

I never had FPS issues "in battle"; smoke was the only place I took/take a hit.  Even flying through clouds I never took a big hit.
===

Not a lot of ground clutter other than targets; for me the graphics don't matter so much -- it's all eye candy for me.  The graphics could suck (they don't) and I'd still play.  The planes look nice, the clouds are beautiful, and the dusk/dawn/night/stars are cool.

I like this game a lot.
