Another convert to high-speed access coming soon to an arena near you. I so truly hope this cures my rubber bullets of late...

...or at least rule them out, letting me know I am just as bad as I appear...

I'm sorry.

Cable has a lot more latency than DSL, but it has higher peak throughput.

DSL is better for gaming (is there any other use for the internet?).

Cable is better for all other internet related things.

Still, your cable will be far better then your dial up was.  Congrats.

BTW, I have DSL.

Yes, you want DSL instead of Cable.
That being said, a good cable conx beats a crappy dsl any day of the week.

I've got good cable now. I had crappy cable for 5 months.  Now I'm a happy camper.

Well... I might have gone DSL if it was an option- which unfortunately it isn't where I am at. I have single channel ISDN right now, and it leaves much to be desired at times. I cannot be worse off by moving to higher bandwidth as I see it. Better still, it will be cheaper to be on cable than it was to be on ISDN!

What the hell do you want me to do about it drill?!?

I had a 1.1MB DSL at the last place I lived and loved the fact that I can remember just 1 disco for the 7 months that I flew AH with it.

I now have a cable modem and love the 400k/sec downloads I can get after about 9pm.  Discos are much more of a problem for me now tho'.

If I could go DSL here I would, but the download speed is a nice consolation

ROFL!  Congrats on the high speed connect!
And, as usual, the DSl vs Cable wars are still running rampant.
Folks, truth be told, it is all very geographical as to which may be best.  There is no one truth.
Someone commented on down time and how much faster cable is back up versus DSL.  Well, I happen to know there was a large section of the Dallas/Ft. Worth cable network area that went without Internet service for 22 days and another area in the NE U.S. that went without Internet service for a like period of time.
Conversely, I know DSL areas of the U. S. that have been without service for 3 to 4 days at a time.

Bottomline:  Sometimes cable is best, sometimes DSL is best.  Either is better than dial-up, by a long shot.  I wrote up a long post once listing the pros and cons of both types of services,...sigh,...wish I had saved it.

FYI – Sprint PCS is coming out with wireless web for home users.  I’m not sure of the particulars, i.e. throughput, up and down stream, when it will roll out, and distance from the tower.  It’s supposed to be comparable to any physical based medium short of fiber.

It would seem to me that the dish would be enormously expensive but it apparently isn’t going to be.  Only draw back is a line of sight path to a PCS tower.  Which again may be a problem for those of you in the sticks.  Most of the towers follow major highways and metropolitan areas.  It’s been awhile since I’ve looked at a coverage map though.
